Yes, we need help on the OL at LT, but I do not see how a rookie no matter how good he is going to help a team which might be in contention next year for some special things. Now a rookie pass rusher can be great in situational packages. Unless a guy on our board is considered a franchise quarterback and available (when your current QB is in his 30s and the guy is there, you pull the trigger) by some stroke of luck, I would like to see a pass rusher and then solidify that OT position with the best free agent out there. Oh...re-sign that Dansby playa :)

Dang it man, shhh...I'm trying to ease into the whole draft Jeffcoat thing, this 'draft a pass rusher' was just to break the ice, and then on draft day I was going to go with the ol' "well that Jeffcoat guy, he is the best player on the board left" routine :)

Not feeling the pass-rushers this year. Even Barr & Clowney have dissapeared for long periods of time.

Having a healthy Cooper next year will be just like grabbing a top OL in the draft.

Only pass rushers I would spend a first round pick on are Barr, Clowney and Mack. All are going to be gone by the time the Cardinals pick.

I think the new emergance of the offense has caused many fans to underestimate how great a solid LT is for an offense. Arians is a master at devising plays that take little time to happen and Carson is good at getting the ball out out of his hand quick. But that being said, imagine how much better the Cardinals offense could be if they had a franchise LT. Carson could take a lot more shots downfield because he would actually have time to throw the ball. Our screen game has actually been a major improvement this year but having an athletic LT and Cooper blocking in front of Ellington next year is a nice thought. Also having a great LT should open up a lot of space for our running game.

The value of a LT for where the Cardinals are at in the first round is just greater than any pass rusher that will be available to them.

One of my favorite players this year, and he possibly could be available in round 2,but doubtful, is Michael Sam from Missouri. He and Anthony Barr, who we have no shot at getting, are the two best pass rushers I have seen this year.

I would even look at Sam in round 1. He has size, speed, and gets after the QB.

The 3 best defensive players this year that have stood out in games I've wathced are Barr, Sam, and Lamarcus Joyner from FSU.

Good writeup on Michael Sam:

2013 WALTER CAMP FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN: DL Michael Sam, Missouri, 6-2 255, Sr., Hitchcock, TX...Sam becomes the 33rd First-Team All-American in school history, the seventh at Mizzou for Head Coach Gary Pinkel, and the school's first defensive selection since former great Justin Smith in 2000. Sam ranked among the most disruptive defensive players in the nation this year, and his play was a key factor in Mizzou's surge into the top-10. He led the Southeastern Conference in both quarterback sacks (10.5) and tackles for loss (18.0), ranking in the top-10 nationally in those categories.
He was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Year by the Associated Press recently, and was also a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, the Lombardi Award and the Hendricks Award. He has 45 tackles in 13 games this season, including nine quarterback pressures, two pass break ups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery, which he returned 21 yards for a touchdown in a win at 7th-ranked Georgia in October.

"Wow, what a great honor, I'm really grateful to be selected and for our team to be recognized like this," said Sam. "It's been a really rewarding season, especially after what we went through a year ago, and I feel like this validates all of the hard work we put in and all of the sacrifices we made as a team. My name is on the award, but that wouldn't happen without everyone else pulling in the same direction together, and I want to thank all of my teammates and coaches for helping push me and for their support," he said. - Missouri football

NFL Draft Scout projects him in 2nd round of draft.

Let's hope he's healthy. We heard the same thing about Ryan Williams being an extra 2nd round pick. That hasn't worked out too well.

Just like every other RB the Cards have selected in the 2nd round the last 50 years. ;) :D

I think it as FB Karma who posted that the Cards are likely to address LT in FA. If that's the case then I'm all in for a pass rusher. Trade up if we have to but get a manimal to take this D to the next level.

That's the speculation in the media. assuming the team gets a credible vet LT --

Unless a pass rusher falls, #20 or so is the prime spot to take the top rated TE in the draft -- either Eric Ebron from NC, or Austin Sefarian-Jenkins from Washington. Ebron is a more down the field type, ASJ is a giant 6-6, 270 guy who is a mix of receiver and in line blocker.

I like Sam as a second round talent by why even draft him anyways? We need a pass rushing OLB not a DE. He doesn't fit into our scheme.

I got one...Dockett cannot play forever, his future spot and giving DD a breather every so often :)
I'd rather get our pass rushing OLB of the future and worry about Dock later. Especially if we want to be a playoff team next year we have to fill that hole and play for now.

Of all the 'old men' playing on defense, I'd like to see Yeremiah Bell leave first. Abraham and Dockett still have a year or two left.

Give me Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix to improve our 17th ranked pass defense.

He projects as 3-4 pas rushing OLB and has ideal size for that position. In fact, he's a bit undersized for DE at the NFL level.

Jetstream, your idea, of targeting a pass rusher at the top of the draft and then using FA to solidfy the LT position is a good one, except that you have it backwards. Free Agency starts around the beginning of March, while next year's draft will be in May. So we will go into the draft KNOWING whether we have a LT or not. And if not, then I would hope we'd go LT with either the first or second round picks.

I'd love that pick too but he's not falling to us.

Waiting on underclassmen to declare before I get too into this but Blake Bortles and Jace Amaro might be options when we pick along with OT and OLB.

I don't think Bortles will fall to us but if he does it'd be interesting to see if we take him. I hate the idea of taking a TE in the first though. FIX THE OT PROBLEM FIRST!!! I don't care if the TE has the potential of being Rob Gronkowski. As long as our OL sucks we won't be able to compete with San Fran and Seattle consistently.
