It seems everyone, coach Green included (at least publicly) seems to continually change which is most important?

Which order should these 6 positions be in?

DRAFT NEEDS:
Quarterback,
offensive tackle,
defensive tackle,
wide receiver,
linebacker depth,
secondary depth.

Depends on Green's faith in McCown. The QB position is the one position that us outsiders cannot judge, because it comes down to Green's system, McCown progress, McCown adaption of the system etc. If Green is telling the truth and McCown good enough I would rate the positions like this:

DT
CB
WR
OL (possible replacement at RT and depth at guard)
LBs
QB

Pretty close to my opinion, I am really worried about McCown also but got to go with Greens feelings on this I guess... In looking at overall ranking and team perfomances I think the top three are our areas needing the most improvement... My gut feeling is that McCown (and I hate to say it) will struggle a bit... I am just really relying on Green and hoping that he has seen some growth...

The Cards have put themselves in the position that in the "impact" round(s) of this draft (namely rounds 1 and 2), they won't have to pick for need, and can pick the best player available. Some question of "need" will come into that estimation, but Graves and Green have done a good job of minimizing that.

With that being said, I think that the Cards need good players at these positions, in order of importance:

(1) Playmaker/catalyst/leader on Defense, regardless of position. Personally, I'd prefer a middle linebacker who can blitz, cover, and defend the run, but anywhere.
(2) 2-Gap Defensive Tackle. It all starts up front. A good 2-Gap player will make the entire defense better.
(3) Cornerback. Renaldo Hill might be gone after 2004. Duane Starks is a question mark. It's essential that the Cards get some young players to re-stock the larder.
(4) Runningback. I'm not sold on Marcel Shipp as the answer, especially in Dennis Green's offense. The Cards need a home-run threat at tailback.
(5) Middle Linebacker. It's a travesty that Ronald McKinnon is a starter in the NFL. If he's still starting two years from now, the folly will be compounded. He can only do one thing. He'll be a great special-teamer and wave player, but he shouldn't be starting
(6) Speed wideout/Kick/Punt Returner. If DG's going to run a 3WR base offense, we'll need someone that defenses will have to respect coming out of the slot (we're rolling our eyes at you when you raise your hand, Mr. Gilmore). If Az Hakim is released after the draft, he could do well. If not, Dennis Northcutt could probably be had for a 2005 third-rounder.
(7) Offensive line depth.

If Fitz and Williams is gone then we take Taylor. Bank on it.

I am still puzzled as to why so many want a receiver. We are not really that bad off at that position and could likely pick up a decent one in the 3rd round. I think we have a bigger need at DB,DL and QB. First you have to have a QB who can hit the receiver and you have to have a good runner that will allow the passing game to develop. Our running game also sucked last year. With Smith as a 35 year old backup we had better also be looking for a RB.

Good Point, Ranked 29th in rushing with a 95 yard per game average is not going to help our QB or the WR... Am I reading stats incorrectly or did we have a total of 5 rushing TD's last year? I would have put RB in there but it was not even on our list of most needed positions accourding to SportsNews...

I agree, WR is not the biggest need, but I still want a WR in the 1st (or Wilfolk). It's a combination of Green using a three-receiver set on 80% of the plays, meaning we need a serious upgrade at our #3 WR and looking at the draft. If QB is not an option in the 1st, then there aren't really any need players at the top. WR is the closest you get to a need worthy of the #3 pick and the the talent available this year, so WR makes most sense...

Running back can wait til next year. We have both Shipp and Smith with Scobey still around. Damien Anderson is a question mark due to his accident.
Should be fine this year.
If someone gets hurt in training camp then pick up someone.
Next year look to get a Running Back early in the draft as Smith may retire.

If the cardinals draft someone this year I see it being a second day pick.

I see defense being more likely on the first day(except if Fitz is selected in the first round).

Seven positions, seven picks in the draft... Not so bad.

You learn some inexplicable optimism by being a Card fan for awhile.

I say WR, because thats what I want in round 1. Boldin was the only good WR on the roster last year, the rast sucked. Put some body worth a crap opposite of Boldin and watch defenses crumble  Cards biggest Need I would say is a CB in the draft though Starks has injury ??? marks, Hill's contract issues are not over and Macklin is not a #1 CB if these guys run into problems, So CB is important, but not in round 1. Take the best player at the 3 spot and there is no CB worthy of a top 8 spot in this draft.
