I want to get ONE pre-Draft magazine, and I'd like to know what everyone thinks? In the past, I usually bought the Sporting News issue, but was a little disappointed with it , last year.

I quit buying those rags a while back. With the sports links and all the draft analysis you can get right here, there is no need (at least for me).

Hi Garth:

I buy both Lindy's and The Sporting News. I find Lindy's to be far more realistic and accurate.

For example, this year, the Sporting News has Terrence Cody rated as a 7th round pick. A little extreme in their assessment of him, I'd say.

Plus TSN seems to have been written far too early...but what you do get from them are roster assessments (Kent Somers writes ours)...so that's a nice feature.

Lindy's has some interesting features too. This year they have an article called 20/20 in which they re-evaluate last year's top 10 picks...check this out:

Team/Did Select/Should Have Selected:

DET/QB Matt Stafford/QB Matt Stafford
STL/T Jason Smith/WR Percy Harvin
KC/DT Tyson Jackson/OLB Brian Orakpo
SEA/LB Aaron Curry/T Michael Oher
NYJ/QB Mark Sanchez/QB Mark Sanchez
CIN/T Andre Smith/LB Brian Cushing
OAK/WR Darrius Heyward-Bey/WR Michael Crabtree
JAX/T Eugene Monroe/S Jarius Byrd
GB/NT B.J. Raji/LB Clay Matthews Jr.
SF/WR Michael Crabtree/WR Jeremy Maclin

Interesting that in retrospect the two QBs were in their opinion the right picks. In fact, I think STL and SEA should have drafted Sanchez.

FYI:

Lindy's 2 Round Mock:

26. Jermaine Gresham, TE, Oklahoma
58. Greg Hardy, DE, Mississippi

TSN's 3 Round Mock:

26. Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame
58. Jermaine Cunningham, OLB/DE, Florida
89. Kareem Jackson, CB, Alabama

The features I like about TSN...they do a good job highlighting the sleepers and the small school prospects, and they have a great forecast for the 2011 Draft.

I recommend you buy them both.

I bought ProFootball Weekly. It's OK. It has the Cards taking Taylor Mays with its pick.

I usually wind up buying them all. Truthfully, I get most of my info from these same sources online, but I like to have hard copies of TSN, Lindy's or nfldraftscouts.com around because I can mark them up, carry them around the house, read them in waiting rooms and look stuff up "on the fly."

I find TSN's Draft Issue the most useful on draft day; but also have discovered that they'll get stuff wrong - most notably; their Big Board player ratings are often "off by a mile" (they grossly overrate some prospects and grossly underrate others - moreso IMHO than do other draft guides).

I do like the way they present their 7 round draft board - I use it as an objective way to rate players for Cardinal 7 round mocks.

The books usually have found their way onto B & N and some supermarket magazine racks around the first of April.

Agreeing with you yet again.

Also, I like to have all the copies laid out on my bar so as the draft I can read bios and such.
