he nearly killed himself via drunk driving while in college

and this was from the pre-internet / social media era -- the rumours are that he was a handful then

i dont think Favre was/is a bad guy -- he just was really immature and needed to grow up

i am leaving open the possibilty that Chad Kelley is immature and needs to grow up
He wasn't fighting with coaches in college, that was my point.

Kid spent some High School years at Red Lion, near York, PA. Everything I've heard here locally is the kid was bad, bad news. Not sure if his uncle has helped straighten him out as Jim was in bad health when this kid was at his worst.

I've never put much stock in these "secret" things people know or have been told. If they've got the details give them. If not let it go. Kelly had/has issues. Often with these young players it's hard to determine if they can be managed. The advantage of taking him late is that less is lost if he fails. Many on this board are in such a rush to get the QBOTF they're willing to grab a QB at 13 that is a risky pick. I think most experts would agree none of these guys are worth that pick. What makes it worse is that this is a great draft. Normally potential Pro Bowl players are gone by pick 7. Sure you find them later, but not as commonly. This year the Cards may well get a shot at one with pick 13. Wishing there would be a great QB there is not the same thing as one actually being there.

I really like this kid and if not for his off field issues would be considered first round material. I have said it before, and I'll stick to it. I would rather us draft Kelly in the third then take any QB at 13, and I really do like Watson.

Geez. Does something like this make a guy go borderline undrafted?

Even if we take a QB in the first I wouldn't be against spending a 6th or 7th on him though.

Agree, if he's still there in the 6th I would take a flyer on him. Not much to lose and a hell of a lot to gain.

He wasn't going to be drafted until the 6th or 7th round, at best, anyway. This will likely make him an UDFA.

I was on board last month for trying CK out, if BA and Tom Moore can harness and break him - He could be special- Much better than Logan Thomas

I asked around and no one sees this as an issue. Most think he goes in round 4

I would actually like to see him go to the Packers as A-Rods backup...a few years behind Rodgers could do him a lot of good if the attitude calms down.....and living in the land of perpetual blizzards will either teach him self control or turn him in to a serial killer

I agree Harry, I still say I would rather take Chad Kelly in the third or fourth then any QB at 13.

Agree, much better risk than Logan Thomas pick- and I feel Kelly has a chance at huge upside as an elite NFL QB - will outperform any Qb we take at 13 like Gus did to Heath Shuler in DC. And we can get him later than honey badger which was the same risk by my evaluation. I have him graded on the field better than the other QBs - just like HB
