Should Luck stay at Stanford -- and many suspect he will -- teams that need quarterbacks are going to have a hard time finding one who can help next season. If Luck stays in school, it will leave a draft that is top heavy in stud defenders. According to ESPN draft expert Todd McShay, the four top prospects after Luck are all defensive players and all underclassmen. The four players who could be among the first four picks are Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley, Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers, LSU cornerback Patrick Peterson, and North Carolina defensive end/linebacker Robert Quinn. What's notable is that each of the teams now projected with top-five picks -- Carolina, Denver, Cincinnati, Buffalo and Arizona -- has major defensive needs. So it's possible there will be an early run on defensive underclassmen.

If we end up picking 5th, as seems most likely if we lose Sunday, and Luck does not come out, it could put us on the outside looking in, in terms of top of the draft talent to position.

With Luck gone in the draft and Fairley almost certainly gone by 5, it puts a top need player to us at 5. If we draft 11ish, it is a different draft sheet completely.

I say trade the pick if we get a top five unless Quinn is still there.

If we get the 5th pick we'll be guaranteed a choice of two of the following 6, I wouldnt call that the outside looking in

Peterson
Prince
Bowers
Quinn
Green
fairley

Peterson is the guy to get. I don't see how Quinn will get drafted that high just because he hasn't played for over a year. That can't help his cause. My ideal scenario would be Peterson in round 1 and Justin Houston in round 2.

Hey Bucky, is this finally the year we draft a pass rusher early in the draft?

Who would you prefer? I caught parts of the Clemson bowl game and wasn't blown away by Bowers but as I said I only caught parts of it. I did notice Clemson dropped him into coverage on at least one ocassion and a draft site has him listed with 4.6 speed.

The Bidwill's have a reputation of drafting high character guys. I wonder if the laptop incident and the controversy surrounding Newton's eligibility would be enough to have them pass on Newton if given the chance.

Quinn. We definately need a bigger guy to hold the edge in the run game...and yes Cardiac, I believe this might finally be the year, given the Cards have painted themselves in a corner needing an edge rusher unless the NFL has a new CBA & we add someone like Woodley.

Carimi and Moffit, well the whole Wisky OL, is pretty impressive in run blocking. I would love Moffit in round 4.

Carimi is about as good as it gets...as a matter of fact just take the whole wisky line!! Team somehow loses the fact the game is won/lost on both lines.

I'll take Carimi in the first round. Right now my top three picks are Andrew Luck, Gabe Carimi and AJ Green. I would be happy with any of those. Right now there aren't any other players that I want in the top five of the draft. After watching Carimi tonight he just went ahead of everybody in the draft except for Luck.

Carimi, as well as he played today, can't be considered in the top 10. He'll probably be a RT in the NFL and taking him top 10 would be way overdrafting him. That's how we got Levi Brown, although I would guess Brown was a higher rated prospect than Carimi. I would still rather have John Moffit in round 4. Re-sign Deuce, and he and Moffit would be 2 road grading guards to build a running game around. I agree a tackle is going to be addressed in the draft and, if Carimi is sitting there near the ned of round 1, he could be a trade target.

I am in for Peterson as well.
