I really like Hughes in the second round, and would be totally cool with him being a rush DE out of our nickel packages to replace Bert Berry. My feeling are the same with Brandon Graham. Teams line up in their nickel formations so often now that even if you run a 3-4, it is smart to have a rush DE to get after the QB.

I believe that our defense is best built by strengthening up the middle. I know Cody is there, but I am concerned about his weight issues. He times very slow too, and will only get slower. I believe that Weatherspoon is the BPA up the middle right now.

Until QB's start dropping back 40 yards looking at their 40 time is absolutely useless to determine whether or not they will be a good NT. I doubt any 330+ pound NT is running a sub 5 second 40.


Anyhow, this pick would be very tough and if we went with anyone besides Iupati I'd be happy, we have solid depth at guard with the Hadnot signing so I'm not worried about that position at all. I can see reasons for going with any guys on board, Wilson/Hughes/Cody/Weatherspoon I'd be happy with any of them. IF we sign Porter and Foote it'd be a tough choice between Weatherspoon, Cody, and Wilson...glad I'm not in the war room. ILB's always drop in the draft, so if have Foote Weatherspoon isn't a pressing need. Wilson or Cody, I guess I'd flip a coin If our scouts are high on Cody I'd go with him, this defense really needs a beastly NT in the middle.

I'd be shocked if any of the pass rushers make it to us. OT's will be flying off the board early and often. If Campbell gets buy crazy Al then maybe....

Weatherspoon. I'd want to pull the trigger on Cody, but after Branch flopped it makes me hesitate to invest a high pick on a guy with weight issues who is one-dimensional.
