I like the picks, but I don't agree with Castillo. After the steroid report, I think his stock drops way down. Nobody wants a player who could be suspended day 1.

He has no strike 1 as he is not yet a NFL player. The steroid test doesn't count against him. As of right now, he's as clean as the driven snow.

I'm so sure that Denny will draft Derrick Johnson and Adrian McPhearson that if he doesn't I will drink a six pack of cold Budweiser really fast. Then again, if he does...

Derrick Johnson will not be DG's #8 overall pick........you can take that to the bank

impact players can't be impact player without non-impact players like offensive linemen, just ask kurt warner. i would love to see elton brown in the 2nd rd.

Also I thought that Green said that they wont take a RB (Arrington in 2nd) if they do the deal with Buffalo
You're right.

Re Castillo - The fact that he was up front about it apparently impressed a majority of GM's surveyed. Whether or not the Cardinals were one of them is debatable. All I know is: we need a NT badly, he seems to be good value at that pick and there aren't many good NT's available in this year's draft.

Regarding a guard at 2 - You may have a point about Green's MO, but I also know he says he'd take the BPA at each rung of the draft and, in my opinion, Baas comes closest to fitting that profile at #44. Also - he projects as starting immediately, and I'm not 100% sold on Bridges at RG.

Finally, I am not aware of any hard and fast rule that says "you have to pick up impact players in the second round." (I do know that many teams believe this is what you do in round one).

I really have no clue what Denny plans to do. And, anyone who says they do is talking out of their hathole. Some of us will be right, but it's more of a lucky guess than anything. This is the most tight-lipped I can ever remember the Cards being. They haven't even announced any draftee visits have they?

Jeff, the only people who think that Denny wants to draft a non-impact player like an OG in the second round--where you pick up impact players--are on this board, and you and Walter are their leaders. The only time that Denny Green has ever drafted an interior offensive lineman on the first day was 1993--Denny's second year with the Vikings. They picked John Gerak with the first pick in the third round. The offensive line is set. Take Denny's word for it.

Drafting Luis Castillo after he sent out a steriod memo in the top of the third round would be an embarassment. There's no way that he gets drafted on the first day now.

Depends on how highly we have him rated. I mean Baas, not Castillo.

I wouldn't be that surprised either if we took Baas in the second round. Most analysts have him rated as a first round player. He could drop into the second round though because of his position. Hey, if you can get a top 32 player with the 44th pick, why not? Three years from now, we're probably not even going to remember what we thought we needed in the second round. We'll only care about whether the pick is a good player or not.

No. None at all. And I haven't seen any listed in the GBN report, which is a pretty good source. They are being quiet this year. The only thing I've really heard about the Cards is that our receivers coach was at the Jerome Mathis workout. That usually indicates some interest - to have a position coach there instead of a scout.

It sure will be interesting if both Benson and Rolle are on the board. It'd be even more interesting if Benson, Rolle and Alex Smith are on the board, IMO.

It sure will be fun next saturday. I've already told my wife to pencil me in as MIA that day. She was pissed because there was some mom's group BBQ she wanted to drag me to. I put my foot down and nixed that idea.

My guess:

Agree on Rolle and Benson. Agree that Denny would like to trade down for Rogers if Rolle is gone and we have Henry or if both Rolle and Benson and Cadillac are gone. But if he can't find a suitable trading partner, I think he'll take Derrick Johnson if available. I also think G&G will think long and hard about who to take if Alex Smith falls to #8. I don't think they expect him to fall that far.

As far as a later round back, in addition to Fason I think we would consider Shelton in the second or maybe Brandon Jacobs in the third. Both would give us that big north-south power back that Rowen seems to be looking for. A fourth or fifth round option may be Ryan Grant of Notre Dame, who shared time with Julius Jones.

Two later round corners that may fit into our cover-2 schemes are Bryant McFadden (2nd round) and Eric Green (3rd round). Corey Webster has great upside but needs alot or work. I wouldn't mind seeing us pick up Travis Daniels in the fourth round either, where I'd think he would be a good value for that selection.

I don't think Rolle is going to fall to us. Best scenario IMO, we get Henry straight up for Shelton and trade down for Rogers in the first round. That would give us some wonderful flexibility with the rest of the draft. Plus at least one extra pick, probably a third rounder.

We're of one mind - I like it.

Living in Minnesota before retiring here in Arizona; I followed Denny and the Vikings. In the 10 years that he was head coach I can't recall ever being right on trying to guess who Denny would draft. Except last year we all felt that he would draft Fitz. But the bottom line is that he rarely shows his hand.

If we're talking the stars aligning right then here's what happens:

The Cards trade the #8 and #44 picks to Dallas for their 2 #1's(11,20 i think)
with those picks they draft Benson and Rogers. In the 3rd round they find a taker for LJ and hve three 3rd round picks
with those picks they take Elton Brown,McFadden, and Roscoe Parrish.
Round 4 gives us Kevin Everett

That doesn't mean they didn't have any, although a comment made by the Cardinals awhile ago about a Travis Henry visit might be telling:

"We didn't bring him in because we didn't need to. We have all the information we need on tape..."

Quite possibly, the Cardinal brass may feel they have all the info they need about the draft prospects they've targeted and see no reason to bring them in.

Or not.

I think Castillo really is as smart as his high Wonderlic score indicates. Here's why: Coming from Northwestern, a school not known as a "football factory," he knows he has to impress scouts with his workout at the Combine. To do that, he has to get his injured elbow to heal quickly, so he takes Andro. He knows he'll be drug-tested at the Combine, so he's upfront with all the teams in admitting he used the stuff. With the healed elbow, he's able to do his 32 reps on the bench press, improving his standing in the eyes of GMs. They also admire his candor, so he gets "character" points. This was a good business decision by an Economics major. He'll make a boatload more $$ this way, than if he had been forced to skip the Combine workout because of his injury. Obviously, the NFL can't suspend him unless he tests positive after signing a contract.

To quote Professor Turgeson, "I like the way you think. I'm gonna be watching you."

Good thing your a lawyer. Your going to have alot of mouth's to feed. I'm still working on getting Henry and Surtain, then drafting DJ, Matt Jones, Chris Kemoeatu, and Darrin Sproles.

I'm still trying to figure out how the Auburn backs - which are pretty much both rated ahead of Benson and top five picks are going to last later than when we pick - pretty out there if you ask me.

I just do not like the risk of a CB at #8 and I do not care what there name is. There is no Deion Sanders in this group. High 1st round CB picks are very risky. Take a RB or Johnson. Better chance of them not being a bust. Yes, we need a CB but I do not see one of these guys being the BPA at #8.

Write it down on paper and save, JJ Arrington will be the stud RB of this
draft. Great feet and a home run hitter. My wish is for Derrick johnson and JJ. :newcards:
