under winners is this about Phoenix

Phoenix: The Suns traded their No. 7 pick for a second rounder and wound up with Jackson Vroman instead of Andris Biedrins or Luol Deng or Kirk Snyder. And um, they're one of the winners?

Sure, because by trading out of the seventh slot and by getting Charlotte to take Jahidi White, the Suns now figure to have $14 million in cap space, which is enough to make a max contract offer. And more good news arrived when the Mavericks got the No. 5 pick and selected Devin Harris. The Mavs seem set on Harris as their point guard of the future, which means free agent Steve Nash's days in Dallas could be numbered. The Suns will make Nash a target in free agency, and it looks like Dallas won't fight them on that. Of course, if Nash is included in a trade to the Lakers, the Suns will look elsewhere.

LOL, the Suns are winners because they might be able to sign Nash to a max contract?

I'm trying my hardest not to worry about this off-season just yet, but I don't think there's any way the Suns should earn over a C- in this draft right now. Who knows? In a year or today may look like geniuses. Right now I would say it's probably more likely it looks like a bad trade even in a few years.

we won't know whether it was a good trade until we see who we draft with the chicago pick.

Prove me wrong, Jacko.

I'll hold off judgement until I see this guy in action.

Grading drafts is one of the silliest activities I know of. There is no "objective" way to evaluate a draft for at least three years - more if the there was a trade for a future pick. That being said, the Suns accomplished three goals which is not bad considering the quality of the draft:

1. They got a future pick that can either be used or included in a trade package.

2. They cut their cap requirements by about 3/4 for this upcoming season, thus giving them more flexibility in the going after free agents and trades.

3. They got an inside guy who could have easily gone 10 to 12 picks earlier. He fills a need without having to live up to being a lottery pick. I suspect he will get more minutes than most the guards being considered, since I think the Suns are focused on getting a FA guard.

They could have done a lot worse.
