If we take the 2nd QB in the draft, history appears to be against us.....Maybe we should not draft a QB until later... or not at all

2003 Leftwich
2002 Harrington
2001 Brees
2000 Carmazzi
1999 McNabb
1998 Leaf
1997 Plummer
1996 Hoying
1995 K Collins
1994 Dilfer
1993 Mirer
1992 D Brown
1991 Marinovich
1990 Ware
1989 Walsh....supplemental
1988 McPherson
1987 Stouffer
1986 Long
1985 R Cunningham
1984 Peace
1983 Blackledge
1982 McMahon

My point here is that even if we draft the 2nd QB in the draft, it's far from a sure thing..... another reason to consider trading down

Giovanni Carmazzi is the man!!!! 65th taken overall, top of the 3rd by the 49ers, Pennington was the first QB taken at 18th.

Who doesn't love a Carmazzi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notice that Dennis Green took two of those QBs to the playoffs (Cunningham, McMahon). And not too many times did the second QB taken go #3 overall. Obviously, some went all the way at #65. Can you believe that Carmazzi went ahead of Tom Brady and Mark Bulger? Hindsight.

Taking certain positions in the first round in the draft have a higher range of failure. QBs and WRs in the first round fail more then say OL.

But at the same time some do succeed. The draft is a very tricky thing. It requires big time smarts and a bit of luck.
