This guy needs his own thread. IMO he is almost exactly where Nash was in his development just before the Suns traded him to Dallas. He may never be the play maker Nash is but he might make up the difference with his superior defense.

His shot is still shaky.

He is one of the best backup PGs in the league nothing more nothing less. He won't be a top 10 PG when you look at Curry, Wall, Rose, Westbrook, Rondo, Williams, Paul, Jennings etc.

He is definitely coming into his own. I don't think he will ever be the shooter Nash is, but who is really? I think he will be a very good shooter, borderline great defender, and good passer. I don't think he will ever be the level of Kidd, Nash, Paul, Rondo, or Williams, but could be in that second group of guys with hard work like Billups, Miller, or Hariss.

Very true, but that isn't a knock against him necessarily because we are seeing the best wave of young PGs in the history of the league IMO.

In addition to shooting, defense and passing, he sparks the rest of the team when he comes in. I would say that, behind only Warrick, who is getting most of the minutes coming off the bench (for the time being) at PF, Dragic is the most important sub on the Suns.

He is getting the least minutes of the second 5 when he comes in, because Nash is getting the most minutes of the starters and Gentry is on an almost perfect position-for-position substitution pattern which, as many of you know, I believe adds to on-court chemistry as the season progresses.

Speaking of the season progressing, as Nash wears down or misses time, Goran will move to the top of the most-important-sub list.

I'm not trying to imply anything, but people were saying similar things about Nash when he was a youngun i.e. he's just a broke man's Stockton, no way he'll be as good as Kidd, Marbury, Iverson etc. I know you like to think the worst of everything Suns related, but we just never know what will happen.

It was clear that Nash was a great shooter very early in his career.

Absolutely. He was such a great shooter that we never really gave him much of a chance to play the point. It didn't hurt that we had Kidd and KJ but we just barely had KJ and there still was no intention going forward to play him elsewhere.

I still don't know what we have in Dragic. There's no doubt he can do some things but until the offense is built for him we may never know whether he's a great backup or a budding star.

Are you saying that Steve Nash and his behind-the-back passes in the 4th quarter (keeping his teammates involved) is an inferior Point Guard to Kevin Johnson's driving the lane (and getting blocked) with the game on the line, while his teammates stood around?

And that KJ will be the one elected to the HOF (for his three 20/10 seasons)?

To quote SNL, "Really?!?"

I'll betcha that Steve will be a better Mayor of Victoria, BC, than KJ has been of Sacramento, too. :)

He really needs to work on his Free Throw shooting. The dude can stroke it, so shooting 56% on the season and 72% for his career is not going to get it done. That's my biggest concern with Goran right now.

I'm assuming the point was that they are different players and not that KJ was better than Nash. That being said, I think that KJ was better than Nash.

I love KJ but I think Nash has been much better. I think Steve's ability to improve those around him far outpaces any advantage KJ might have had. Also, Nash is one of the best shooters to have ever played this game. Healthy, KJ was an unstoppable penetrator but he missed a lot of time because of his injuries and that has to be considered also.

Once Dragic starts hitting FT at a better percentage he will be a much better guard. He knows how to get to the hoop and he needs to make those free throws.

How dare you tell me what has to be considered?! I refuse to consider injuries, that's not fun.

I feel bad about what George Karl is going through but I don't think I'll ever forgive the guy for the shots he took at KJ. And the shots his players took at him. KJ would have a few thousand more FT's if the refs actually made a call each time someone would cheap shot him on his way to the hoop.

BTW, I looked it up. By rule, you're required to consider injuries so what can I say. If you got a problem with it take it up with that guy who made up these rules (his name might have been Steve).

Alot of times I think Dragic is BETTER than Nash. Of course it's only in spurts, but it does show sometimes.

I'm not saying dump Nash, hell no. But we do have our PGOF.

I'd like to see him playing more with the starters. I like how he's getting a feel for when he has to shoot and when he should pass. I see lots of Nash in his game, but he has his own style as well that also reminds me of KJ.

The guy is everything I hoped he would be. Can he be more? Possibly. Plenty of time to find out.

We're in a good position. Even if this is the best he gets, as long as we have Nash, it's enough to win a championship from the pg and backup pg position. (of course we need help at the other positions to actually get a championship)

To each his own. It used to be Steve Two but I had it legally changed.

And you can take responsibilty for your predictions, One.

I don't mind taking responsibility for my predictions, it was just the stupid ones I was trying to offload.

In a van...down by the river.
If forced to make a call on who's the better player between Nash and KJ i'd have to give Nash the nod.

However,if i'm building a championship team i'm taking KJ over Nash.
I want a PG who can be at least a competent defender, and offensively have the mentality to put pressure on the defensive interior as well as be an outstanding distributor.

AZSteve brought up a good point earlier in reference to Dragic. We really dont know what we've got until he's leading an offense thts built towards his strengths....which this particular offense is not.
