If forced to make a call on who's the better player between Nash and KJ i'd have to give Nash the nod.

However,if i'm building a championship team i'm taking KJ over Nash.
I want a PG who can be at least a competent defender, and offensively have the mentality to put pressure on the defensive interior as well as be an outstanding distributor.

AZSteve brought up a good point earlier in reference to Dragic. We really dont know what we've got until he's leading an offense thts built towards his strengths....which this particular offense is not.

I'm a huge fan of KJ but if I'm building a Championship team Nash is the man. He makes everyone better.

Alot of times I think Dragic is BETTER than Nash. Of course it's only in spurts, but it does show sometimes.

I'm not saying dump Nash, hell no. But we do have our PGOF.

I wouldn't dump Nash either but if Nash wanted to play for a contender (which no matter how good the Suns play they are not) and a team offered an outrageous package I would feel comfortable with Dragic going forward.

After reading this, I started playing what-if games with previous NBA championships. Off the top of your head, can you think of a previous winner that would still win with KJ that wouldn't likely win with Nash? I honestly couldn't come up with an example for either of them. For example, take out the PG on any of the Spurs championships and I don't see either KJ or Nash changing the outcome.

I do....and the Spurs would be a fine example. I see Tony Parker and KJ being fairly interchangable, but i dont se Nash co-existing too well playing inside/out ball with Duncan as the focal point. Not to mention that guys who cant defend dont stick around very long in S.A.(see Richard Jefferson).
Dont get me wrong Parker is no juggernaut defensively, but he certainly wasn't near the bottom rung of the defenseless ladder among PG's like Nash.

This is all conjecture speak of course.:)

I'm excited by Goran's future. He has just barely tapped his potential. Already I'm inclined to want him on the floor late in games when hanging on to a lead due to his defense and ability to post up most opponent's PGs. (If ahead, Nash and his free throw shooting is huge).

Are you telling me you have absolutely no intention of altering history? I say, let's mess with the time-space continuum and find out who's right.

The question is, is there a shooting guard that you would take over KJ or Nash? Why not just use them both?

Funny you should say that. I'm watching POTA right now. 1968 original of course.
"What will he find out there doctor?"
"His destiny...."
:D

You don't prefer the version with Donnie Don's brother?

I was going to do the stinking paws quote but I sort of paraphrased it once already this week and I'm pretty sure there's a limit. So I'll just refer you to one of my favorite Kinks songs - Apeman from 1970. Check it out, it's what us youth-impaired people use to listen to.

I'm not all that old but when I was growing up, a pair of guards like KJ and Nash wasn't at all uncommon. As many here know, there didn't use to be a distinction between the 2 guard positions. Each of them was expected to set up the offense and/or shoot when appropriate. Of course, back then there was really no distinction between the forward positions either.

That applied more to two Shooting Guards than two Point Guards. Size still mattered at the wing.

Some examples. Paul Westphal playing alongside Don Buse for three years, followed by three years alongside Dennis Johnson.

Westy was great on offense. Buse and DJ gave us six seasons in a row with an All-NBA defensive Guard, each of whom were de-facto Point Guards (but not really).

Earlier than that the two Knicks championship teams (in' 69 and '73) had Walt Frazier as the non-traditional Point Guard alongside "2" Guards Dick Barnett, then Earl "The Pearl" Monroe.

The closest we came to the two Point Guard concept was with KJ at the Point alongside Jeff Hornacek as a small Shooting Guard. The same when he went to Utah alongside Stockton.

Oh yeah, more recently the Brazilian Blur at SG. In both cases, lack of size at the "2" hurt us defensively.

As far as Forwards, the Suns are one of the few teams who didn't distinguish between the PF and SF (sound familiar?) or between C and PF all too often.

Thanks for posting that. It was fun to watch. I do think I am comfortable with Dragic inheriting this team from Nash. Hopefully we will be able to keep that scenario in place.

I know, the highlights show me one thing, Dragic can excel in a pick and roll offense with more minutes. His speed, size is even harder to guard than a Nash pick and roll because Dragic is great at finishing near the rim over bigger defenders. These highlights were pretty amazing. Why doesn't the guy get more minutes!!

Because that would come at the expense of Steve's minutes and only an injury to Steve would cause that. No disrespect to Nash, but that is the situation.

Especially with the Suns not favored to advance in the playoffs (if it happens like last season, that's gravy for the FO), Steve's minutes are not going to be moderated during the season. His 33.7 minutes per game are the highest on the team.

Here is the photo featured on today's SunsNBA.com site. For the time being, Nash on the floor is money in the bank.
