Drake basketball’s Isaia Howard will enter the transfer portal, according to reports.

Howard, who just finished his freshman year, came off the bench in 30 games this season, averaging 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. He contributed seven points – off a 3-pointer and two dunks – in the Bulldogs win over Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Howard recorded a career-high 21 points along with six steals while playing 35 miuntes against Belmont in the semifinal round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

One year after undergoing a complete roster rebuild – after almost all of Drake’s roster entered the portal following the departure of head coach Darian DeVries – the Bulldogs athletic department finds itself in a similar situation again.

Iowa announced it had hired Ben McCollum as its new head basketball coach on Monday, taking over after Fran McCaffery’s exit.

McCollum compiled a 31-4 overall record in one season at Drake, his first year leading a Division I program. He coached the Bulldogs to the regular season and tournament titles in the Missouri Valley Conference and pushed Drake to its first first-round win in the NCAA Tournament since 1971.
