How many years left does DJ have? What is the cap hit of they unload him in the off-season?

He played well. I’ve seen him very little since the Fins have sucked so much. He surprised me but let’s not put him in Canton yet.

Very impressed he did this on 1 days of practice & knowing the offense

That is what makes David Johnson’s lack of performance scary. Edmonds and Drake can blast through holes and create space even with very little blocking. The salary issue is one not created by anyone but Keim and Bidwill. The ball is in their court and it’s a complicated problem

I think that's a reach, he's never been a primary guy anywhere in college or the NFL. Durability is hard to judge. He had 233 carries in FOUR years at Alabama! 333 in 54 games in the NFL before tonight.

But he's got some talent, he catches the ball well so he's a good fit for the offense. Him and Chase running the ball look like they could be a nice combo.

If I’m not mistaken he hasn’t missed a game yet since he started playing midway through his rookie year...I’d say that’s pretty good durability.

It was just one game. Let's pause and see how Drake does from here. He really had a fantastic game, though
It's just one game but it was against one of the better defenses in the NFL so if he can do it against the 49'ers he can do it against weaker defenses.

But will he is the question. That remains to be seen and I think we can wait to extend him until he maybe proves himself?

Even in Miami, Drake had these type of games where he flashed and looked like an all-purpose back. Then for some reason he’d just disappear and/or wouldn’t run with the same intensity.

Tonight he was extra fresh on a short week and I’m sure he wanted to leave a good impression in his first game with us. He had a great game but let’s see if he can finally be consistent with his play.

Can we just put 4 WR, 3 RB, Murray and 3 offensive lineman on the field? It's not like we have an offensive line anyway.

We could, but 2 of them would be ineligible.

I thought the oline did relatively well outside of a jail break or two. Some of the pressure was from missed blocking assignments on the TE or RB.

Can we watch him play another couple of games before we state that we have a dilemma on our hands? For all we know, this could be a LeShon Johnson moment.

David wasn’t even with the team tonight... I know he has a family but cmon man, your team is hurting without you. I think drake/Edmonds could be the future. Maybe find a trade for DJ. Question is, do we eat the cap hit if he is traded? Wouldn’t make sense to move David being how much he’s paid.

Yes, we would have like $15M in dead cap hit if we traded him. Plus I don't see a team picking up a $10M base salary on him. It is a deal that is impossible to make because neither cards are not interested due to the math and the other 31 teams won't be interested due to the math.

yeah... if DJ gets healthy, having those two guys on the field in a couple weeks and for the rest of this season should turn this offense up a notch against bad and good teams, alike.

Then I wouldn't know who to bench or play on my fantasy team. :lmao:

It came at a good time, the trade was needed & for one game it paid off. Had it not been for his performance, we would've gotten destroyed. I never said anything about resigning him, but if he plays anywhere close to that the rest of the season...................? It would be stupid not to.

I want to see DJ and Drake on the field at the same time. DJ can be our Larry Centers.

No lie, if I'm Kliff I roll with the notion that our three backs are better than most (if not all) of our receivers and utilize them as much as possible. I take a page out of the Patriots' play book from last year and revisit the Pro set and add that to the repertoire. When the pats utilized that last year it worked.

The problem becomes if drake does light the world on fire we can’t afford him. He will get $8m+ money from a team like Indy or Seattle. We just can’t do that with the cost of DJ and the 15 other position we need to solidify. It becomes a real crummy situation.

People, c'mom man! Drake has had exactly 4 other games in his career like he had last night. He has played in 55 games thus far in his career. Get a grip. Do you think he's going to suddenly produce like this game after game? Highly improbable. I highly doubt he is suddenly going to force Johnson and Edmonds to take a back seat in snaps either.

Sample size with us is too small to draw conclusions but I don't give a ton of credence to results with the Fins either. They are a bad team and we have seen when cardinals move to another team they suddenly can ball. I'm not counting chickens one way or another but he looked solid last night in all phases and that's without considering he had a few days to practice with the team and learn the playbook.

Any decision on Drake will of course be based on what he contributes over the rest of the season. The Drake supporter ( including me) are based on what he did last night. If he continues then you keep him. Cap space be damn. DJ will probably be gone in 2021.
