New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye worked hard to build relationships with his teammates last year, as he adjusted to life in the NFL.

Mass Live's Karen Guregian wrote about the extent Maye went to build bonds with his teammates as a rookie in the locker room.

Guregian wrote:

"Maye was mindful of those relationships as a rookie. He wanted to build bonds around the locker room, so he made a conscious effort to sit with different teammates during lunch and send texts when they were away from Gillette Stadium."

Being a franchise quarterback is more than just about throwing touchdown passes.

It's about being a leader and a unifying figure in the locker room and on the football field. Maye's actions make it clear that he understands his role on the team.

His numbers weren't all that impressive on paper with 2,276 passing yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. However, the eye test showed a young quarterback flashing serious talent with limited receiving weapons, while also playing behind a struggling offensive line.

Yet, despite all of those issues with the Patriots, Maye willingly stepped up as a leader and earned a Pro Bowl nod as a rookie.

The Patriots have been looking for a franchise quarterback ever since the departure of Tom Brady, and it looks as though they might have finally found their guy in Maye.
