Josh Gordon was a fan of quarterback Drake Maye's game before he was selected by the New England Patriots with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft.

The former Patriots receiver talked about the organic connection he made with Maye, when speaking with CasinoBeats' Kyle Odegard. It all started with the two following each other on social media and progressed with Gordon sending a message.

“It was just on Instagram," said Gordon. "You just see that follow back (icon), I was like, ‘Oh, I didn’t even know he followed me.’ I’m like, ‘Look, bro, I like your game too.’ And sure enough, years later, he ended up getting drafted to the Patriots, I was like, ‘This guy’s a dawg and I knew it back then.’ Drake Maye, they’ve got a gem over there. He’s going to do some special things for them."

As Gordon puts it, he was playing "couch coach" while watching Maye play. The Patriots quarterback stood out as a potential game-changer before he even walked onto the draft stage.

And Gordon wasn't wrong, either.

Maye put together a Pro Bowl season in his first year in the NFL. He showed tremendous promise by throwing for 2,276 yards, 15 touchdowns and 10 interceptions behind one of the league's worst offensive lines and limited receiving weapons.

He also rushed for 421 yards and two touchdowns in 12 starts.

If this is just the beginning, one has to wonder how massive a second-year leap could look like for Maye. We can only surmise that the best is still yet to come from the 22-year-old signal-caller.
