Gary Kubiak. Odds are that he gets fired from the Texans once the season is over. He worked with Mike Shanahan for most of his career, and he developed Matt Schaub from a promising #2 quarterback to (for one season, at least) one of the most accurate passers in the NFL. He made Arian Foster, and he knew how to take advantage of Andre Johnson.

We'll see this offseason how much Ken Whisenhunt's ego will get in the way of the team's desire to win. He can't go into 2011 with the same coaching staff he has now--especially on the offensive side of the ball. He obviously needs a strong personality to stand up to him on the sideline (even with Warner in--who allegedly had a lot of input into game planning and play calling when he was working with Haley and Whis--the offense's productivity dropped off steeply once Haley left). Whisenhunt's unwillingness to live with #7 for a year has probably cost this team at least a game. His unwillingness to commit to a running game that would play to the strengths of his offensive personnel has probably cost us another (Seattle).

I'm not against hiring another less experienced position coach to run the offense--that's what we did with Haley, after all. But the current structure isn't tenable if this team is going to continue to build next season. I think that Kubiak would be an interesting choice.

Texans would be as stupid as we were to dump Leinart. They have half a year to go and may yet pull on supermans cape. (Peyton Manning)

Nope they accumulate talent while we toss it in the trash.

I hope Grimm takes on a 4th title as OC playcaller. I bet we would be more balanced and more accountable.

Dude. Get over it already.

I kinda see where he is coming from though. Leinart has won a lot of games for the Texans this season.

I would love this hire as well. Not a chance it happens.

Sign me up as well, I'm not sure he'll get fired though. Are the Texans really under performing that much?

They're 4-4 right now and sitting last in their division. They've lost to Dallas (!) and San Diego, both at home.

Over the last half of the season, they have home-and-homes against Jacksonville and Tennessee, as well as at the Jets, at Philly, hosting Baltimore, and at Denver.

They finished 9-7 last year and missed the playoffs. Kubiak signed a two-year extension through 2012 in February. If the Texans can't finish that division schedule 3-1 or better, they're going to finish 8-8 or worse, and I don't even think that .500 will be enough to save Kubiak's job.

I'm sorry guys but I am feeling pretty down about this whole season lately. I've even regressed to the old thinking (often debated) of: the Cardinals are TOO CHEAP to bring in any sort of big name coordinator that would require a substantial payout. I'm fighting the old feelings but...

I said in an older post that I think the Cardinals are in need of a coordinator overhaul similar to what the Chiefs did (Weis and Crennel). Bring in a NAME/NAMES with a distinct vision and proven track record a la Greg Williams in New Orleans. That worked out pretty well for that long suffering franchise don't you think?

I stated this in another thread as well. I would love to see us go after Gary. He's done wonders everywhere he's went...be it as qb coach for the 49ers with Steve Young to OC with the Broncos where his offense posted 66,501 total yards and 465 touchdowns, the most in the NFL during that span. His offense there was effective even with Brian Griese and Jake Plummer. Certainly has an impeccable track record, and is, at least in my opinion, one of the brightest offensive geniuses in recent times.

...and get Wade Phillips as DC.

I wouldn't shed any tears over this, but I'm not as sold on Phillips as some people are. I'd prefer to grab Marvin Lewis once he gets canned in Cincy.

Like the others said, it would be nice but never is going to happen. Heck, Whiz has had the same O-staff for 2 years running and he's still not comfortable letting someone else take over the OC role. He's not going to hire someone and abandoned what he thinks is the way to go. I think there may be a good chance of that on the defensive side of the ball but not on offense. The best thing would be some team finally hires Russ Grimm as their HC that would kind of force Whiz's hand a little bit. I have never liked the passing game/ running game/ offensive coordinator set up. Get someone in there and let them run the offense. You know all 3 of them have different ideas on what to do and that can't be a good thing.

Kubiak would be a great hire. However, given this thread title, I'd suggest a guy named Todd Haley. I think he'd be a great fit here and it would give us a future HC candidate if and when CKW's star began to fade. According to many here that fading started a yesterday or two ago.

K-9-----if we managed to get Kubiac for an OC, I would be elated. That would mean so much more than just having a real OC and a HC. It would signify to me that Whiz actually sees the need for change, and having Gary Kubiak would just be icing on the cake.

Good idea. Kubiak could bring Leinart with him from Houston.

You're sort of lumping Kubiak and Shanahan together. He was QB coach in SF but even young says it was Shanahan that taught him how to be an NFL QB. That offense in Denver was Shanahan's not Kubiaks.

Kubiak learned under Shanahan and they have similar philosophies, like to roll the QB out, like to use zone blocking.

My thing would be if you hire Kubiak you need to replace most of your OL because like Shanahan he likes smaller mobile OL's. I don't think Levi Brown or Deuce Lutui can play OL for Kubiak without losing a lot of weight.

I don't know if Anderson is mobile enough to play for Kubiak I think Max and Skelton probably are but obviously we'd be looking for a starter there anyways.

Funny that Brandon Keith would be perfect for that offense though.
