Gary Kubiak. Odds are that he gets fired from the Texans once the season is over. He worked with Mike Shanahan for most of his career, and he developed Matt Schaub from a promising #2 quarterback to (for one season, at least) one of the most accurate passers in the NFL. He made Arian Foster, and he knew how to take advantage of Andre Johnson.
We'll see this offseason how much Ken Whisenhunt's ego will get in the way of the team's desire to win. He can't go into 2011 with the same coaching staff he has now--especially on the offensive side of the ball. He obviously needs a strong personality to stand up to him on the sideline (even with Warner in--who allegedly had a lot of input into game planning and play calling when he was working with Haley and Whis--the offense's productivity dropped off steeply once Haley left). Whisenhunt's unwillingness to live with #7 for a year has probably cost this team at least a game. His unwillingness to commit to a running game that would play to the strengths of his offensive personnel has probably cost us another (Seattle).
I'm not against hiring another less experienced position coach to run the offense--that's what we did with Haley, after all. But the current structure isn't tenable if this team is going to continue to build next season. I think that Kubiak would be an interesting choice.
