LOL at people thinking Twitter is some official reporting tool.

People don't think that. I think they are depressed at the prospects of this being true. Not to mention that some of our local media are confirming Nash's contract is waiting league office approval and is a done deal. The league office is closed until next week. Hence the official word being delayed.

IMO, the Suns are willing to invest in Nash because he is the face of the franchise. The Suns do not have another player to hang this mantle. It seems the Suns are reluctant to extend Amare. I do not believe this will change unless Amare stays and has a banner year. However, I think at first chance, the Suns will try to trade Amare for value... even if it is less. I do not think the Suns want any part of a contract extension unless it is a sign and trade.

Actually, it seems Amare is still on the market.

See article from Paul Coro dated July 17, 2009.

ESPN.com's Marc Stein reported Thursday night that the Suns remain open to the possibility of trading Amare Stoudemire before the season.

That's a fact. All that recently unfolded was that the Suns accepted the reality of not being able to get a deal worth moving Stoudemire, particularly after he underwent a follow-up eye surgery and made statements that he would only be interested in playing for and signing an extension with a contender if he can't stay in Phoenix.

if we lock up $10+ million over 3 years our FO are idiots. the rebuilding has to start sometime and that chunk of change will continue to handcuff those efforts. i hate this FO.

Well did you think our 2 time MVP would accept an MLE? 5-6-7 mil a year? Its sad, but there is no way Nash is gunna accept anything under 9-10 mill..

Which makes me wonder, whats with Trading Amare is you're resigning Nash?? Where is the plan for the future? does our F.O even HAVE a plan for the future??

Gone are the days of the Suns having four stars on a roster: JJ, Marion, Nash and Amare competing for attention. Now Shaq is gone as well. Since the Suns have only two of these players left (still giving Grant Hill his due), the Suns have only one player to promote (Nash) with Amare in likely trade limbo.

I tend to lean towards paying nash 12+ a year is not what we should be doing...

But a two year extention at a little over 10 per is fine by me... And while I don't think a Dwayne Wade will sign here for Nash, why wouldn't a Marcus Camby sign here because of Nash?

I don't expect a young talented player, but I do expect a savvy vet who signs for less than they can get else where for a chance to play in the Suns offense with a slightly less effective Nash...

the good and the bad about Nash is while he is getting old and his stats have gone down slightly over the past couple years, he still is good for 15 and 10, while running the offense effciently... So if it stays between 10-11 I am ok with it, but knowing how bad the Suns FO is I am fully expecting a 2 year 14+ contract in which case I will throw up in my mouth

Nash resigning bring hope

First off, signing Nash is not a poor decision. His defensive "liabilities" have long been noted. That said, he's still a top 10 PG in the league. He's still a guy that other players want to play with and be around. In this age of me-first athletes, he's a rarity that a team should want to make the face of a franchise. What PG are the Suns going to get in the 10-12 mil range to replace him?? Any of the top-5 PGs are going to demand a whole lot more than that. The focus should be on finding a great-looking prospect for Nash to mentor over his last few years.

Lost in all this is the fact that he's a terrific competitor, and as competitive as he is, he could easily play out his option and choose his next destination. This makes me think that he likes the direction that Kerr is "planning" on going. Why would he resign if, like many on this board, he felt that the team was directionless and penny pinching. His willingness to resign in Phoenix bodes well. If you don't trust Sarver and Kerr, have faith that Nash is too competitive to just grab his millions and play for a team that does anything less that chase a championship.
