Wonder if it is just a formality. Now that he has agreed to take a cut, maybe they just need to file a new contract with the League.

I'm serious. Contract was not filed by 1:59 p.m. Elvis Dumervil informed Broncos he was taking the new deal at 1:25.

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora
Dumervil will now make $8M in 2013

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter
Elvis Dumervil agreed to salary reduction, smartly. Remains in Denver.

Elvis Dumervil caves, remaining in Denver http://dlvr.it/35BBZ9

Broncos didn't get fax with Elvis Dumervil signature on contract until 2:07 p.m. -- 7 minutes and 1 second past the deadline!

Broncos could still sign Elvis Dumervil but there are salary cap implications. Not that simple.

What a mess in Denver. They must have filed the Welker contract and gone over the cap. So Elvis has left the roster.

What deadline???

From what I gather, it is kind of like the Kolb deadline. They needed to file a restructured contract with the League by 2pm Denver time (COB for the League today) or he was owed a boat load of money. When they missed the deadline (or right before), they cut him to avoid paying. He is a free agent.

I think.

He was locked into a guaranteed salary tomorrow if he didnt either get released or restructured by 2pm local time today. The paperwork was not faxed til 2:07. He will probably be released under the June 1st rules.

Wild stuff on Dumervil right now: It's clock management. Agent made a "colossal mistake," source says, by not getting signed contract faxed.

Whether it was the player, the agent or the fax machine, that was a mistake that potentially just cost Elvis Dumervil millions of dollars.

#Broncos had to protect themselves. It was 1:59. No signed deal. Had they not released Elvis Dumervil, $12 mil would have been guaranteed

I wonder if he and his agent cooked up a scheme to see if they could manipulate Denver into paying him the $12 million by not sending in the contract on time. If he was going to be cut anyway, why not roll the dice and see if the Broncos had their clocks set exactly right. Probably not, but how else can you explain such a colossal mistake?

Either the agent was trying to stall and pull a fast one or his agent is a moron. Elvis is going to lose millions most likely.

I mean he agreed to the restructure at the last minute, so it is conceivable they were just gambling, weren't they? If so, that agent will never work again.

Maybe they thought they have until 4:00pm MST or the agent lives in AZ and forgot about Daylight Savings.

I don't see why he will lose millions. He was already going to lose millions even if the new deal had been submitted in time. Now he will likely get around the same amount anyways.

All I know is this, in the lull of this screw up...fly some brass up to Denver (if he is there) and steal him from the Donkeys...Zona is not that far away :)
