Spurs C Duncan exits with knee injury

December 2, 2007
SAN ANTONIO (TICKER) -- San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan left Sunday's matchup against the Portland Trail Blazers with a right knee contusion and sprained ankle.

The perennial All-Star got tangled up with Portland's James Jones on an alley-oop pass in the second quarter before falling to the floor and grabbing his knee.

The 31-year-old Duncan was helped off to the locker room by his teammates and will not return. The former MVP is set to have an MRI on Monday.

I am no lover of Duncan and the Spurs... but I hate to see them have injuries. As a fan, I want to beat them at full strength (unlike our competitors have done to us the last three years).

http://www.nba.com/ has the clip on the front page

It was more duncan wrapping his leg around JJ than JJ getting too physical. Like an extra quarter spin trying to get under the hoop.

I hope the refs checked the benches after the altercation broke out.

Duncan sprains right ankle, bruises knee; will have MRI Monday

Associate Press

Updated: December 2, 2007, 5:04 PM ET

SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Spurs forward Tim Duncan bruised his right knee and sprained his right ankle Sunday in the second quarter of their game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The team said all of Duncan's ligaments appeared stable but that he would have an MRI on Monday. He was not to return to Sunday's game and the team said he would miss some playing time.

Duncan got caught up with Portland's James Jones and fell to the floor near the Spurs' basket with 7 left in the half. He was clutching his knee and had to be helped off the floor by two of his teammates.

Unless he is out for the season it really doesn't matter much.

Speaking of karma, nice wishing a knee injury to another team's star player.

Stay classy Suns fans.

I feel safe on the karma side, betweeen the horrible breaks the Suns always get, I didn't wish the injury it happened, I'm just hoping for the other shoe too drop, it's always the Suns getting assed out, I'm tired of it and the League bends over backwards to give the Spurs all the help they can possibly get. I HATE the Spurs!! and your Rockets are a bunch of lame asses who cant make it out the first round,

I believe microfracture only relates to the surgical procedure and not the injury.

I know you want to sleep well at night and all, but TD is the best PF I've ever seen. Pop is a great coach and the rest of the spurs make them the best overall TEAM in the NBA. that's why the spurs have 4 titles over the last decade. I hate the spurs as much as any other, but lying to yourself doesn't make things better. Hopefully he's okay from a true fan's perspective, like someone else on here mentioned, you want every team to be at their best. I hate hearing lame a@# excuses about injuries from fans and players.

What? This post is an embarrassment to Suns fans. I don't want Duncan or any other player injured, and I can't believe anyone else would, either. If and when we beat the Spurs, I want them to be at full strength. Otherwise, what good is it? Besides which, Duncan seems like a genuinely classly player.

exactly. let me give you an example of how spurs fans would treat you if duncan were out and the suns knocked them off. After dallas defeated them in the playoffs 2 years ago........every spurs fan in the world(and their media) were blaming TD's injuries on the loss. TD averaged over 30 pts per game in that series to include a 40+ effort in that incredible game 7. That had to be one of his best playoff series ever from a production standpoint. I'd hate to think what would of happened if he was almost healthy.

I would call him one of the most talented, dedicated players with some of the best fundamentals established in his abilities. But his whining and constant foul denial remove any significant "class" he may possess.

I do agree wishing injury on anyone is bad form.

many of the best players ever to play the game (duncan included) whine about foul calls, that's just how it goes. they know how good they are and they want to do everything possible to help their teams win, which would mean staying on the floor. because duncan whines doesn't make him unclassy. is amare unclassy because he gets technicals all the time? is nash unclassy when he side-steps along the baseline pointing at where he thought the ball landed screaming like a maniac? the answer is no, that's just their competitive natures.

Beating the Spurs without Duncan is nothing to get excited about. They're just another average team. Him being there and playing is the reason I want to beat them so badly.

Beating the Spurs without Duncan would be like winning the title in a strike shortened season.

The Suns have had more than their share of bad luck. If they end up stumbling to a title because someone else gets hurt, I have no problem with that whatsoever.

That said, serious injuries to superstars are bad for the game, and I hope Duncan will be fine.
