Card fans were concerned looking at the 2011 season since we had lost Dansby as a FA to Miami. DW was the linebacker drafted as his replacement. A lot of fans had the same reaction to DW coming in to replace Dansby as many do now to Minter moving up to replace one of the DW/Dansby duo.

Another cost for DW was the third-round pick we traded to the Pats to move up in the 2nd to take DW. Tried to take a look to see which players NE got in the exchange. As usual with the Pats, they traded the picks traded from the Cards. Houston ended up with Ben Tate with our 2nd round pick and Carolina took WR Amanti Edwards with our 3rd round pick. DW had some pretty positive reviews pre-draft 2010. I listed a few below (plenty more if you do a web search on: Daryl Washington 2010 TCU pre-draft evaluation) Some 2010 draft evaluations of DW:

Also comments on Dan Williams and our new LT Veldheer:

Did not find a write-up that indicated potential ‘character’ problems with drug violations/domestic abuse. Perhaps other forum members recall reading of any concerns. The pre-draft reviews for Minter would have him as the better run-stopper compared to DW but less of a pass defender. Both are sideline-to-sideline intense players. It would have been sweet to see both young players on the field for years to come. Of course, that ain’t happening. The point is that there were as many questions regarding DW’s ability to fill Dansby’s shoes as there are now with Minter’s ability to fill in. Minter was selected by the current coaching staff to fit their defensive scheme—and we should expect a good fit as that 2nd pick replaces the departed 2nd round selection.

True, but now we have to replace BOTH Dansby and D Wash, back then we were just replacing Dansby.

Guess we will just have to notify the NFL and let them know that the Cards are conceding the season since we are down one player. Send the memo to the 90 guys in OTA's and the dozens of coaches so they can make alternate plans for the fall/winter.

be surprised if anyone though Dwash ended the season. The super bowl will be more difficult but we can still ball.

Not sure what sort of fly should I used to try and catch that red herring?

Probably one made of straw like your strawman.

Wow that was a really good draft. Williams, Washington, Andre Roberts, Schofield and Jim dray in the 7th

Minter is a young kid there was a time Washington was that young unproven kid just like you said. Lets see what he gots he was a monster at LSU

The Cards were wheeling and dealing during that draft. It was also the year we traded Boldin to the Ravens.

I think our draft last year is going to pay benefits this season. We pretty much didn't get to see anything out of last year's top picks. Cooper went down (our #1), Minter sat behind Dansby (our #2). Okafor went out with a biceps repair. I see all three as big additions to the roster coming into this year.

Positive that the Cards will make the adjustments and will compete again in our tough division.

I know we have two openings for LBers in our 3-4 defense.

Right and the year we drafted D Wash we had ONE opening which was the point I made that you went off on some tangent about forfeiting the year.

It's harder to replace 2 guys as good as Dansby and D Wash, it's hard to replace one, replacing both in the same year is not easy.

I don't think the defense is going to collapse, but I do think it's going to be harder to replace them both than it was to replace just Dansby.

2010-2012, the 3 seasons after losing Dansby and drafting DWeed the Cardinals were 18-30. And almost everyone associated with the team not named Bidwill has been fired.

We do know that the current employees won't mail in the season as has been done in many past years but for 2014 the Cards are bringing a knife to a gun fight.

Here's my first paragraph leading off this thread: Card fans were concerned looking at the 2011 season since we had lost Dansby as a FA to Miami. DW was the linebacker drafted as his replacement. A lot of fans had the same reaction to DW coming in to replace Dansby as many do now to Minter moving up to replace one of the DW/Dansby duo.

We are looking at Minter to replace ONE OF THE DW/DANSBY duo.

I don't want to get into a pizzing contest. I know we have two openings. Every Cardinal fan on the forum already knows that. My point is that Minter has the credentials to be one of the replacement guys compared to DW when he was drafted.

And here is what you wrote in response to my response to your first post.

"Guess we will just have to notify the NFL and let them know that the Cards are conceding the season since we are down one player. Send the memo to the 90 guys in OTA's and the dozens of coaches so they can make alternate plans for the fall/winter."

that's what I'm referring to, I never said concede the season and give the team the year off I just said it's not the same as 2010 because we are replacing both of them not just one.

That's why I made the strawman comment, nobody is saying don't play the season, and I'm perfectly fine with letting Minter grow into one of the jobs. But this is a tougher situation because who is growing into the other one?
