Card fans were concerned looking at the 2011 season since we had lost Dansby as a FA to Miami. DW was the linebacker drafted as his replacement. A lot of fans had the same reaction to DW coming in to replace Dansby as many do now to Minter moving up to replace one of the DW/Dansby duo.
Another cost for DW was the third-round pick we traded to the Pats to move up in the 2nd to take DW. Tried to take a look to see which players NE got in the exchange. As usual with the Pats, they traded the picks traded from the Cards. Houston ended up with Ben Tate with our 2nd round pick and Carolina took WR Amanti Edwards with our 3rd round pick. DW had some pretty positive reviews pre-draft 2010. I listed a few below (plenty more if you do a web search on: Daryl Washington 2010 TCU pre-draft evaluation) Some 2010 draft evaluations of DW:

Did not find a write-up that indicated potential ‘character’ problems with drug violations/domestic abuse. Perhaps other forum members recall reading of any concerns. The pre-draft reviews for Minter would have him as the better run-stopper compared to DW but less of a pass defender. Both are sideline-to-sideline intense players. It would have been sweet to see both young players on the field for years to come. Of course, that ain’t happening. The point is that there were as many questions regarding DW’s ability to fill Dansby’s shoes as there are now with Minter’s ability to fill in. Minter was selected by the current coaching staff to fit their defensive scheme—and we should expect a good fit as that 2nd pick replaces the departed 2nd round selection.
