Didn't he already do that with Peyton Manning and the Colts? He's emphatic that he wants to win a Championship. Highly doubt he'll come to AZ. I'd love to see it though.
His best days are well behind him... no thanks
Please---no 34 vs. 43 rebuttals---the fact is you HAVE to be able to pressure with 4 in order to be a great defense---plus, because the NFL has become so pass happy, the most common front the Cardinals will play this year is the 4 man front, as they will play a ton of their version of the 4-5-2.
That is exactly the defense Pagano implemented last year, and Freeney had his worst year yet.
The guy doesn't have anything anymore. He is nothing more then a name at this point in his career.
Freeney - 719 Snaps - 5 Sacks, 16 QB hurries
Per snap those are below average pass rush numbers, and it looks even worse especially for a guy who isn't asked to do anything but pin his ears back and rush the passer on all 719 snaps which is clearly evident by the fact that in 719 snaps he had 12 tackles. For comparison sake:
Groves - 455 snaps - 4 Sacks - 10 QB hurries
And he wasn't asked to rush the passer on all of those 455 snaps.
Great comparison Joe.
Signing Freeney this offseason would, IMO, be like signing Joey Porter all over again. Freeney might be mediocre for a year, maybe two, but he's clearly lost his burst off the line that made him an elite pass rusher at one time.

I don't think he's lost his burst, but he doesn't fit as an Outside Linebacker/Rusher in a 3-4. He's suited as an edge DL in a 4-3.
I was waiting for someone to give a dumb response like this. Someone could bring up Tom Brady and someone would say hes too old only has 3 years left. If he makes the team better you sign him no matter the age. Hell I would sign Deion Sanders right now to play corner if he wanted to because he would still be better than most our current DB's. If you get freeney on a 2 year deal it would be well worth it. He would automatically be the best pass rusher on the team.
Signing Freeney would make it much easier to draft Warmack at #7, thereby passing up the likes of Jones, Werner, Moore, Jordan and Ansah.
I am in agreement with Cbus that the pass rusher options at #7 are too good to pass up---that is unless we address the position in free agency.
Freeney saw BA win with less overall talent in Indy than what the Cardinals have. I imagine that Freeney could get excited about playing in Arizona.

Cliff Avril would be another great choice, if we can't sign Freeney.

What makes it a dumb response? You said "if the guy makes the team better, you should bring him in" and the other guy opined that Freeney was past the point where he'd make a team better. Personally, I'm tired of paying big money for other team's castoffs just to watch them stink it up on the Cardinals. I'd think long and hard before I went after Freeney or even Brady unless we were getting them on the cheap like Belichick used to do.
