Not sure if this was already posted or not:

Eagles pay for Warner hits
The NFL fined a pair of Eagles for penalized hits on Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner in the NFC Championship game. Defensive tackle Broderick Bunkley was clipped $5,000 for unnecessarily hitting Warner later, on the flea-flicker pass to Larry Fitzgerald. Safety Quentin Demps was nailed for $7,500 for "unnecessarily" hitting Warner away from the play. That play, following a five-yard completion to Anquan Boldin, helped jump-start the Cards' field-goal drive at the end of the first half.

Demps' fine should have been more IMO, especially considering it was aganst a QB and was the epitome of a cheap shot.

The Demps fine I understand, but I thought that Bunkley's was just a case of charging and being unable to stop.

That fine amount on Demps is BS. It should have been a minimum of $ 25,000. Isn't that what Wilson got fined for what I considered a legit hit on the Buffalo QB earlier in the regular season.

Demps personal foul was a joke and an act of cowardice on his part. The Eagles basically declared that they suck and the only way they can win is if they get Warner out of the game by any means necessary.

Demps should have been ejected from the game for that and a larger fine. A 15 yarder is nothing if Warner would have been injured on that.

I agree...well maybe I don't. Back in the good old days that wouldn't have been roughing. Bunkley should have pulled his arms back or done some acting job to appear like he was trying not to hit Warner, but the hit was going to happen anyway.

I still think that Bunkley should have been hit with the 15-yard penalty, but the fine surprises me.

Yeah, I'm surprised he was fined too. Demps should've gotten a much heftier fine than he did though. By the amounts being so close, it's like the NFL is saying they were pretty much the same type of hit. I think Demps' was much more flagrant and definitely intentional. Should've been 25k.

Thats what I thought. How do you not eject a guy for that. It had nothing to do with football whatsoever.

Agreed.

That was a disgrace to the game.

With all ticky tack fines the NFL gives out for hits that are an inch to high or low in the heat of battle how can this fine only be $7,500.00.

That was a blatant attempt to take Warner out, and it was so far gone after the play it was a joke.

Nah. It was a beat too long after the play for that. It was an obvious penalty, and I was pretty sure it would be fined. I think the $5K was about right there. Football play, just late.

The Demps thing... well, if the $7.5K was right for Demps, then by comparison, Bunkley shouldn't have even been flagged. Not a football play, just a premeditated cheap shot. I don't understand the two fines relative to each other.

Pretty steep fines and a big message sent from NFL. Several thousand $ is a lot for NFL players. It's a good thing the NFL sent this message. We wouldn't want players using these tactics in the Super Bowl! :sarcasm: :bang:

Demps is (or was) a rookie, it was a rookie mistake in a big game. Probably the biggest game of his football career to date. Those things happen to players on every team.

I didn't see much of that game live... picked up the rebroadcast on NFL channel.

So take this comment as a general comment... (From what you all are saying about Demps, it sounds more like the idiocy that ended Jim McMahons career than a legitimate play).

. . . I really am sick and tired of how they "protect the QB" It is about time they put dresses on the QB's and play two hand touch.

I am not for idiocy. I am however, for football players being football players. I saw Troy P. coming from teh safety position and putting his hand up to stop a pass as he was jumpin at the QB. The pass got a way, and his arm continued into the helmet of the QB. It was JUST his arm.. .and he wasn't swinging it, nor was it a "straight arm." Yet, he got a 15 yard penalty.

I think those type of calls are HORRIBLE. The players should be allowed to play.

---Again, these are general comments---

Yes, this was not a slight blow to the head. The pass was completed. Both Demps and Warner were done with their part of the play and just strolling towards where the play was. Demps just turned around and drilled Warner right in front of the referee.

It was a cheap shot with intent to injure in my book.

Yeah, like I said I didn't see the whole game. If THAT was what it was... then it was ignorant.

Luckily in this coming game, you won't see that. You WILL see our LB's coming VERY hard... and finishing the play. I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple 15 yard penalties for roughing the passer. But there won't be any stupidity like what you described above.

Demps was the lowest "play" I've seen in a long time.

But to do it right in front of the ref like that was pure frustrated stupidity.

Fine should have been more. IMHO
