That hard work is getting Watford noticed. Coach Bruce Arians called him “probably the lineman who had the best OTAs” at their conclusion on Thursday and said he’s pushing for a starting role this season at right tackle or one of the guard spots. Watford has increased his versatility by showing promise at tackle after playing guard through high school and college, which should, at the very least, help his chances of keeping a roster spot.

“He’s playing four positions and playing extremely well,” Arians said. “I’m really, really happy with what he did. He’s a heck of an athlete. It looks like hopefully the lights come on. I’m really anxious to see him in camp.”

I guess this is good news. Espeicially seeing as it's the first real posative thing we've heard about Watford since he was drafted.

Was he also doing the training with Massie & Cooper at that OL training place in the offseason?

Finally---------and I sincerely hope that this is just not hype as Muffin so aptly pointed out. If this is truth from Arians about Watford, then our O line just took another big step forward in depth and competition. While I can foresee a time when a team can have enough O linemen, I cannot fathom having too many of them. The thought of even one or two of them developing that nasty edge that Iupati has, is making me salivate. It would be so very nice to have a smart, deep, nasty, well trained, and versatile line with continuity for a change. With so many questions completely unknown on the defensive side of the ball, a kick ass O-line that is deep would be glorious at this point.

This is a whisper into Massie and Coops ears that they must compete at a high level or they will be backups.

My hope is that no one starts calling for the team to trade Massie, and we end up with someone (Humphries/Watford) who has never started an NFL game at OT. Bottom line if BA is to be believed, we are in good shape on the OL.

I officially call for Massie to be traded to the Colts for Dwayne Allen

There -- I've done it.

karma, I'd make that trade (for Allen) if you substitute Watford for Massie.

in reality: Watford and Humphries would have to look pretty awesome in training camp and pre-season. Even then.....not sure

but -- if the team truly beleives it has a log jam on the o-line, the Colts have a need, and both Massie and Allen are free agents after this season

I hear TE Ifeani Momah is making some waves.

This is simply something to motivate the guys ahead of him. It's good coaching, but not indicative of his play or talent level.

On the other hand---------BA could simply be trying to pump up Watford's confidence out of desperation because what he has seen in OTA's concerning the O-line is scaring the heck out of him. Lord I sure hope that is NOT the reason for his suddenly taking notice of Earl after more than two full years of nothingness from him.

I think BA is being candid about Watford. I don't think it is a ploy to motivate Cooper. The key is that BA has been lauding Watford's versatility---that he has looked solid in 4 of the 5 spots on the line (BA ruled out C). Thus, Watford, whether he starts or not, could be a valuable swing OL.
