How the heck is this guy still on this team.

My head scratchers right now are

Kolb
Doucet
Wells

If Wilson is a liability and the organization is looking to go younger and cheaper then why on earth to we hold onto the dead weight above ?

I won't even try to comment on our offensive linemen who are a joke.

You cut those three wastes of roster space and we get $11 mil. 11mil + 7mil (Bradley, Gay) + 3mil (Wilson) - (3mil overrage) = 18 mil for the offseason.

I dunno, when you cut A-Dub it sends a message, so if this re-tooling/re-building is to take place then do it. Don't half ass it.

More then ever I think the Cardinals have to go heavy on the offensive and defensive lines this draft, and mulligan the season. What is the worst that can happen ? I high draft pick that may get us Teddy Bridgewater in next year's draft ? Heaven forbid the Cardinals have that kind of foresight.

I don't think they can cut everyone at once...maybe they will be working on finding replacements, then cutting the dead weight.

I agree with Kolb and Ducet, but Wells cost very little and is in the last year of his rookie deal. You have to see if the new staff can salvage him before he hits FA status. IMHO

#azcardinals intend to release WR Early Doucet per source. Saves them $1.7 m on cap.

Sometimes it's best to wait until you have to make a decision. Make sure you can bring in guys who are worthy replacements at more reasonable costs. It's difficult to do this until you see how the market plays out. Let everyone go out and spend money quick, let the seat settle, and then ask for a restructure, hold on to them, or release them at that time. There is no real advantage to the team in releasing them at this point.

If you release someone like Beanie, who makes very little this year, you have to account for your cost of replacement. That makes the saving almost negligible, even as a backup.

Doucet has been a liability in the pass game for a while. Last season, he led the league in drop % to targets (22.8%). When you're a wideout and the balls are hitting your hands a quarter of the time and not bringing it in, you're expendable. No waiting necessary.

Yesterday when I read about ADub I assumed no other cuts would be announced that day just so he could have the focus vs being one of several. I don't know if it was intentional but if so it was fitting.

No surprise. Free agency is about to open up. There was a need to clean things up and create some cap space. You can't finalize all moves all at once. So the FO is quietly picking things off. They're also working on re-ing up Toler and Rashad, and I imagine they're still trying to rework Kolb and square away Beanie and LSH.

They probably won't get it all done prior to the FA gates opening, but I think that's what they're aiming for - the more they get done earlier, the better they'll be positioned to make some moves to acquire a few dudes.

Goodbye Mr. Glass. Don't let the door hit you on the way out or you'll shatter.

I think they cut the all but Wells. He is in his contract year, he will have his best year looking for a contract that someone else can give him. We need to take ad vantage of that this year then let him walk. He is not a big cap number.

Thanks ED, you came in on a tough situation (Boldin traded) and played well enough in some really bad situations the last three seasons. Good luck.

This. I'll never understand how some people turn on players who are just doing their best and trying to do their jobs. He's the Cards' best third-round pick have had in a spell.

I hope he has as good a career as Bryant Johnson had after leaving the Cards. Good luck to ya, Early. You were the toughest player on the Arizona Cardinals offense in 2012.

I recall blasting the team when they drafted Doucet, and people blasted me--said he was a Boldin clone. Sometimes it really sucks to be right :(

For some people it is part of being a fan, to put it badly, but still make the point.

Guy is an amazing athlete, but that is almost implied in all conversation on the subject.

On an NFL level, Doucet can't cut it, and it is not his fault he was put in positions where he repeatedly failed.

Or in other words, he was bad.

Arizona Cardinals 3rd round picks (2005-Present):

Darryl Blackstock, LB, Virginia
Eric Green, CB, Virginia Tech
Leonard Pope, TE, Georgia
Buster Davis, LB, Florida State
Early Doucet, WR, LSU
Rashad Johnson, DB, Alabama
Andre Roberts, WR, Citadel
Robert Housler, TE, Florida Atlantic
Jamell Flemming, CB, Oklahoma

If you're wondering why the Cards are gutting their roster of dumb free agent contracts and are going to go 2-14 this year, this record of third-round picks the last 7 years is a really representative reason.

But Keim is the new General Manager, so let's give the guy who picked these guys a chance to do his magic.

Thanks for being a Cardinal Mr. Early Doucett - things are shaking up- But really we have 2-1st rounders Fitz and Floyd- it is hard to spend anymore on the position - this is balancing the cap against the roster
