Early Doucet Released

I recall blasting the team when they drafted Doucet, and people blasted me--said he was a Boldin clone. Sometimes it really sucks to be right

just like how Floyd was supposed to be a "poor man's Fitz". Roberts looked a lot better last year. I agree with the decision

But Keim is the new General Manager, so let's give the guy who picked these guys a chance to do his magic.

those ARE pretty bad. Johnson looked a lot better last year though. I think Housler and Fleming have a lot of potential still though

Thanks for being a Cardinal Mr. Early Doucett - things are shaking up- But really we have 2-1st rounders Fitz and Floyd- it is hard to spend anymore on the position - this is balancing the cap against the roster

Roberts made it clear he was significantly better than Doucet last year too IMO

I always liked Doucet, except for in the Cincy game . I won't be surprised if he hooks up with another team and has some decent years. Heck, he can go to SD and be their #2 WR tomorrow, which wouldn't surprise me because Whiz seemed to like him.

Classic case of a player who lived up to all the red flags the scouts and draft pundits had on him: oft-injured, untimely drops, etc. Too high maintenance for an unreliable and generally unproductive player.

Loved Dirty Dick's in the East End.....but my wife won't let me wear the tee in public.....great story about the owner whose fiance was killed by a runaway carriage just before the wedding...pub fell into disrepair after that.....purported fave spot of Jack the Ripper.

The reason we were ok with letting Boldin go in a trade was because Doucet looked better the year before and showed lots of potential. Just saying lol.

I'm a Channel islander, Doc, who spends as little time as possible at our London office, and given my role it works out. I stay out of the east end.

P.S. Given that we don't know who Jack was, I guess every pub in London, back in the day, could have been his favoured watering hole. (Lol)

The writing was definitely on the wall for this one. He was making far too much money for a 4th receiver who can't stretch the field. I wish him luck, but I doubt I'll miss him.

Yeah, longevity. If Doucet was going to become T.J. Houshmanzadeh, it prolly would've happened by now. But if he can bounce around the league for 4 more seasons, that's a pretty nice career.

And that's more or less what I'm saying. None of us should be surprised if he ended up with a team like Detroit or Washington and ended up being a guy capable of getting 40-60 receptions and 6 TDs a year for the next contract.

Is it just me, or does the Keim era seem to be getting off with a bang? Would Graves have made these moves? Or would he have tried to re-sign them all and largely stay our of FA?

I expect us to be big players in the FA market with all this new cap space, so maybe this week will be a little more interesting that in other years.

You're assuming all the cuts have come and gone. I think a few more are coming that will make that cap number grow. Releasing Kolb would nearly double the cap space available to the Cards, wouldn't it? ($7.5 million)

Yes, but then you need a starting QB.

We just cut Chris Wells to save 1.3 mil, but now we need a RB.
