Anyone seeing any interesting mocks out there? I know it is early but this one was interesting because it addressed the three biggest needs. Poor AJ would need o fight off Dockett for his girl friend.

Arizona Cardinals
1 Cedric Ogbuehi OT Texas A&M
2 Marcus Smith DE/OLB Louisville
3 Victor Hampton CB South Carolina
4 A.J. McCarron QB Alabama

I saw one mock draft on Bleacher Report that had the Cardinals taking a NT.

Talk about a guy not knowing anything about a football team.

I don't like the Ogbuehi pick at all. He hasn't even played LT in college. To project him as a 1st round LT in the NFL makes no sense to me. The reason Matthews returned to A&M was to prove he could play LT.

On the other hand, I was bored and did my first Cards mock draft of the year and came up with this:

1- Ra'shead Hageman: DE from Minnesota. DD is going to need replaced at some point and Hageman is an athletic monster that would pair his 6'6 frame nicely with 6'8 frame of CC.

2(a)- James Hurst: OT, North Carolina. He may be a 2nd round pick but he's still a major upgrade over Sowell and has the talent to be a very good starter in the NFL.

2(b)- I'm trading the 2015 2nd rounder and this years 5th(estimate) and selecting Zach Mettenberger as our QBOF. The more I saw him this year the more I liked. He was always probably an early to mid 2nd rounder and his injury will likely make him available later in round 2.

3- Carlos Hyde: RB, Ohio State. I know many don't think RB is a need but I disagree. Mendenhall likely is not back, Ellington isn't an everydown back and never will be, and Taylor is not the answer. Carlos Hyde is in the Frank Gore mode and is as good as RB as I have seen this year.

4- DeMarcus Lawrence:DLB, Bosie St. I was tempted to select Jackson Jeffcoat just to keep the Texas DE/OLB tradition going but Lawrence give us a better chance at developing a pass rushing OLB.

5- Traded.

6- Tyler Lawson, C, Utah St. He's a very good run blocker and very strong at the point of attack, two things Sendlein is not.

7- CJ Barnett, SS, Ohio State. He's battled injuries and sometimes tries for the knockout hit too often, but if he can stay healthy, he can be a very good SS.

I agree with this though Matthews did play RT some earlier in the year and I don't remember who played LT in his place.

Is Matthews #75? Stay away Cards, stay away!!! ;):p;)

Gimme:

1) Meziel, QB
2) Michael Sam, OLB or Van Noy, OLB
2) trade the same picks for James Hurst, OT
3) Bryan Stork, C
4) Tracy Moore, WR
6) Silas Redd, RB
7) Kareem Martin, DE

Hyde is moving up on draft lists. Kiper now has him #19 on his Big Board of the top 25. He rates him as the top rb.

This is what I got as of now.

RD 1 - Taylor Lewan OT, Michigan
Wishful thinking, but there's always a possibility of him sliding before the draft.
RD 2 - Zach Mettenberger QB, LSU
QBOF. Fits the mold of what BA likes in a QB. Let him learn the system behind CP until his time comes.
RD 3 - Loucheiz Purifoy CB, Florida
Plays well in man coverage. Could make a good #2 across PP.
RD 4 - Arthur Lynch TE, Georgia
Excellent at blocking. Good hands to make the catch.
RD 5 - Hakeem Smith SS, Louisville
Plays bigger than his listed weight. Similar to Kerry Rhodes, a former Louisville alum.
RD 6 - Colt Lyerla TE, Oregon
Without a doubt the BPA at this point. Originally considered as one of the best TEs in college before leaving Oregon. Could be another high risk/reward like Tyrann Mathieu.

I like this except for Lewan. He'll probably end up being a good RT but every time he has gone against a talented DE, he's been exposed. He did ok the first half of the bowl game last year against Clowney. But once Clowney decided to play, he owned Lewan. The last two years against OSU he's faced true freshmen and didn't really handle them all that well. I'd call it a push at best.

I knew he was moving up but not that far. I'd guess he'll be a 2nd round pick only because teams aren't drafting 1st round RB's very often these days. It's kind of wishful thinking on my part for him to be there in round 3 for the Cards.

He's improved so much this past year it almost makes me think he's gone to the Brian Cushing school of training. He was always decent but this year, he's at a completely different level. Maybe it can be attributed to playing at a lower weight, as he's dropped about 15 pounds, but he's got it all. The first guy never brings him down, he has moves and vision, and has shown some long speed this year. I think I read where he leads the nation, maybe it was Big 10, in yards after contact.

edit: funny, I just read this from CBS draft scout Dan Brugler:

There might not be a player in college football who has impressed me more this season compared to previous years than senior RB Carlos Hyde (6-0, 235, 4.62, #34), who leads the Big Ten in rushing yards per game (143.3), which also ranks sixth in the country.

I know there is Free Agency, but we NEED a safety, who can cover TE's, and not one selected on the last day of the Draft. And Methenberger, because of his injury might very well be available in the second round, but what about the Central Florida QB, that Todd McShay has now rated #2?

I think that is Duckjake's guy, Bortles. I haven't seen enough of him to have an opinion and I can't go by DJ's recommendation alone :D. He has the size at 6'4 230, if he declares, which he should, that just adds another good QB into the mix.

AJ is growing on me. I'd have no problem giving DD the boot.

While his play has dropped off, he is having a much better season. Pretty harsh assessment, imo. I wouldn't kick him to the curb quite yet.

I am going to mock what I hope happens but since its hard to determine where ARZ will be draft wise in 4 weeks here goes:

#1 OT Cyrus Koundijio
#2 DE / OLB Jackson Jeffcoat
#3 QB AJ McCarron
#4 DL Will Sutton
#5 CB Carrington Byndom
#6 TE Chris Coyle
#7 DE Garrison Smith

McCarron isn't going 4th round now with all the QB's going back to school. I'm not sold on him, but I would like to see him in the senior bowl and at the combine.

All these drafts I keep seeing are terrible. The Cardinals are a very Arizona fan base team. Unlike the Steelers or Cowboys or Packers who have fans everywhere, most Cards fans live in AZ.

Therefore the odds that these E-draft gurus are actual AZ fans are slim to none, and them knowing our needs are even slimmer.

Its no different than I trying to come up with a Jaguars mock draft. Id totally screw it up because I dont know much about them.

Thats whats happening with all these mocks on the net. Just putrid. In addition, Im not even sure some of these guys are even college football fans. The talent they are throwing out in the early rounds is mind boggling. Im a huge college fan, and they are throwing out names Ive never even heard of in the 1st round. Thats a red flag.

Im working on my Cards draft 2.0 right now, and it is a beauty

Cyrus is not a great LT. He is too raw. Hes a project for a team that has current stability on the line (like the Rams with Jake Long). We need a day 1 starter and Cyrus would get eaten alive. Although Im not a big Lewan fan, he is full grown as a player. Hes no star (way too many technical deficiencies) but you know what youre getting. A Good run blocker who will occasionally get beat by a speed guy.

Jeffcoat is not 2nd round talent. 3rd+

Mccarron is not 3rd round talent. 4th+. And moreover, when it comes to QBs - either you are a franchise guy or youre not. Theres no sense in drafting a backup. Either draft 1 QB early to be your guy, or none at all.

Sutton may be going in the late 1st round. Likely somewhere in 2nd. Hell be loooong gone.

Coyle is way undersized. He cant block in the NFL. Hes a big WR at best at the next level

If Koundijio is on the board when ARZ picks, you best believe they snap him up. Project? No.

I suggest looking at mocks, Jeffcoat is pegged as a 2nd rounder as he had a great year and has shown he is fully recovered from his season ending injury last year. McCarron will go in Round 3 because there will be a run on QB's early in Round 1 and by Round 3 McCarron will be the best available.

Sutton may have won PAC-12 DPOY but he really had a down year compared to last year. I haven't seen any mocks lately with Sutton in Round 1. The earliest I could see him going is Round 3 unless he lights it up in the PAC-12 title game and does extremely well at the Combine.

We could always use a pass catcher and that is what Coyle is, so he can't block for Round 6 he is a good value.
