That begs the question:

Who was the last Cardinals RB to have back to back 1,000 seasons ?

Good for Edge... He's run hard all year for sure. But there is definitely something very wrong with our run game. Not sure if it's just the line (though I'm inclined to believe so), or a combination of Edge, The Line, the Playcalling, Terrelle Smith...

Edge is averaging 3.8 YPC for the season. Yuck...

Edge has ALL of the rushing yards by a RB for the Cards (922) - JJ is next with a whopping 68 rushing yards! Not sure, but I don't believe any other team has this sort of disparity...

We had first and goal from the 1 yesterday late in the 4th quarter - a TD seals the W, and couldn't punch it in... against one of the most putrid defenses in the league... Not good...

But yes, good for Edge... His effort alone is worth cheering for....

Edge has been pretty effective this season, but he doesn't seem to be getting the carries. No one knows how the playcalling goes, but one broadcaster suggested that the HC calls in a run play and a pass play to Warner. If that's the case, it could be that the QB trusts the pass game more than the run game.

On the other hand, it seems that, of late, there haven't been a ton of 2 back sets being run, which makes me think it's the playcalling that has made the difference.

Edge is still effective, but we have to find other options. Hopefully, J.J. Arrington can continue to develop.

That final drive yesterday was a thing of beauty, right up until the last 3 downs.

I think the Cardinals need a legitimate speed back to compliment Edge, it seems obvious that JJ isn't that guy or he'd be in that roll, the year is over half over.

I also worry about the consistency on the line, I think most of these guys playing in the same position for another year together would help a lot. That doesn't mean brining in another body or two for depth or competition, but sweeping changes don't bode well.

Actually it was first and goal from the 9, then second and goal from the 1... but your point is well taken!

Just keepin' it real....

Undefeated when Edge gets his 100. Hopefully that is a focal point of our offense this week.

1000 yrd rusher?

Edge got 1000 yrds rushing last year and before him it was Adrian Murrell in the '98 playoff year.

edge is 36th in the league in yards per carry that my friends is the most important stat. He never breaks tackles or makes defenders miss. the only reason he will break 1000 is because he is second in the league in carries. We should cut him after this season

Actually I agree. JJ Arrington should be give the full time job should we not be able to draft Mcfadden.

Wow! Just think for a second...you want to cut our starting RB who will be back to back 1200+yd seasons because his ypc is not the greatest? Glad you are not running the team because this will be the first time I can remember that we even had a RB with back to back over 1000 seasons. Edge is not the problem give him holes and his YPC you all complain about would go WAY up. Shoot he was ripping off 5 per carry yesterday most of the day before we try running into goal line defenses. We have more glaring issues on this team from the Oline, to CB to DE lots of things need to be worried about than one of the most successful Cards RB ever in AZ!!!!

i'm kind of torn. I like edge alot and he does run with everything he has, the problem is he is a step slow and he makes alot of dough i.e. he takes up alot of cap space. If he were to be let go I think it would be more because of the amount of cap space he takes up and not his lack of production. I am not saying that cardinals should be cheap; they just should pick who they plan on spending the majority of their cap on. From what I hear, Larry Fitz is going to account for a very large portion of next year's cap. Dansby should probably account for a huge amount as well. Those two are legitimate pro bowlers who should be paid accordingly, I don't know if Edge really warrants such a big salary.

C'mon, you cant be serious.

Who cares about that stat anyhow? 3.8ypc means that if we hand it to him four times we get a first down. I am content with that.

Not sure who you have been watching, but I have seen Edge run through tons of tackles and make a bunch of people miss over the past two years. He has been especially good at doing so behind the line of scrimmage.

I for one am proud that in today's injury-stricken NFL, we have a durable workhorse like Edge to rely on.

Edge's bonus was pushed entirely onto the first year of his deal. His salary, and cap number, will actually drop from 5.25 mil to 5 mil next season. The Cards can easily take care of Fitz and Dansby without cutting James. Fitz's number HAS to be greatly reduced by an extension. If it isn't, that's a very bad sign IMO.

While Edge hasn't been particularly explosive, his YPC is down because of the work he had to do just to get out of his own backfield. The o-line's run blocking is terrible at best. Edge has fought for every yard that he's got so far and he always falls forward making plays neutral or positive and not negative.

The two most important stats to look at for an offense's effectiveness are yards per passing attempt, and yards per rushing attempt. (Then turnovers, though I'm certain cheesebeef would take severe umbrage with the order those are placed in.) Sure, a guy who got 3.8 on every rushing attempt would pick up a first down every three carries, but real life doesn't work that way. The more yards you average, the better chance you have of picking up first downs, sustaining drives, and scoring TDs.

That said, when you consider the state of the line's run blocking, 3.8 isn't horrible. I think it's clear James has lost a step, and it would probably be smart to invest in somebody who would actually be capable of sharing carries next year in case James falls off a cliff in terms of performance, but he's doing ok this year. He still runs hard.

Edge shouldn't be going anywhere. He's still got enough in him. That said runningbacks tend to drop off fast when they lose a step. Take a look at Preist Holmes, Curtis Martin, or Faulk. Any sort of nagging injury and they are done. We need a solid back-up. Maybe Arrington is the man. You never know.
