Shane get a grip dude I am not bashing him, I am saying we need Edge, get it? TH may do well he may not he may get hurt do you not get this? The team needs Edge regardless of who on here thinks he's done. I don't understand what you think is so baseless, TH has had ONE decent game as a starter, sorry that doesn't fill me with joy and think TH is some future HOF'er. You do understand that most teams have more than one RB right? So to have an unhappy Edge because he gets sat with zero carries and no explanation from the coach, well thats a poor move on Whiz. I understand he didn't bring Edge here and may feel he owes him nothing, but guys on the team, you know the players that actually matter, may not see this as a classy move either for a guy who's been nothing but a professional since he has came here.

You can see it however you want Shane it was a bad move to bench Edge the way it went down. Not saying TH didn't have a good game as he did but to have Edge in uniform and not give him a single snap in the game was a very poor move by Whiz imo. This team is winning we don't need crap like this to be in the players minds we need them thinking about football, not the organization screwing around with another player.

"We knew we should have a big day running the ball, regardless of who was in there."

This is the quote that is concerning to me. That is demeaning the job that TH did and basically saying he himself would have had a big day as well had he been toting the rock. Which is complete bunk.

Edge would have had about 6o yards and no TD's in that game at best.

While I think Tim is doing a great job, there were some holes to run through, which I credit our improving line. Speculating that edge would have had a poor day is just a biased statement. I agree with the posters who saw Edge supporting Tim during the game and won't look for negativity.

This is a useless and baseless debate.

One would think that for as long as Edge has been in the NFL he would have become more polished when dealing with the press. But he isn't!

Therefore, his brusque statements are inaccurately extrapolated and given a tenor not construed by the originator.

You just answered your own question.

Except that for one reason or another none of them did equal his #'s. Aside from Arrington, all of the others had injury issues. Edge has been a complete workhorse and has yet to miss a game due to injury with us. If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts...

Debateable IMO.

There may have been an injury preventing it a time or two, but for the most part, It had to do with trying the other back on the team, in an attempt to shake the 3. nothing suck-fest average.

You know, the same sucky 3. whatever average Edge has had here, he just broke the not so impressive anymore 1,000 yard mark, by virtue of getting the bulk of the carries, which was dictated by his enormous salary.

for everyone continuing to say "edge gets the crease, finds yards where they aren't there" etc, etc. etc... are you not missing the point that Edge almost NEVER faces 11 man fronts like he would on the goal line and that he can make "one guy"... ah, forget it. it's a useless debate as the coaches aren't going to put him in that position. they (Denny or Wiz) haven't for the overwhelming part of the last three years.

Exactly, one of the things with short yardage running is you're almost always facing a defense stacked to stop the run. At midfield it can often lead to long runs, you break the LOS and there is no safety. But in the redzone it's very tough to run against 11 man fronts, TH has shown an ability to do it, he didn't get it done on the first drive against the Rams, but it was in large part due to lack of blocking.

The reality is we had what 4 runs in that game that were as long or longer than Edge's longest run of the season? That's why we made the change, we know everyone is playing us to stop the pass, early in the season Edge was getting yardage too, he had 100 against SF, 90 in another game, but as the season progressed Edge was getting worse. It was clear we needed someone with a burst.

Edge has ran many games this year with holes that were there to run through and he just doesnt get to them or through them quick enough. If you aint seeing that you need glasses.

In all fairness to Edge, he was referring to the type of defense the Ram have against the run. So anyone in there was bound to have a good game.

Edge has ran well against the Rams since he has been here in Az. he knows their run D isn't good. In his 4 starts against the Rams he had 88, 102, 94, 115 for about a 100 yrd average in those 4 starts, so to say he would have gotten 100 yrds again is just speculation on the TH supporters. Again we will see what the rookie has but to just assume he is going to be some great back after a good game against a bad team is silly. Edge will get the yardage will all those carries too, and he won't stall the offense by losing yards, but whatever beleive what you want. All I know is if we were playing a good team we would have lost that game, a lot of things went our way like a couple of gift TD's. If our offense is that out of sync again as it was in the first half of that game it may cost us.

Edge has every right to voice his displeasure with the decision that was made. Whiz should have talked to him and not giving him any carries just made it worse. You don't treat the established vets on your team like that, players pay attention to that. You can bet your ass if Q had a couple of bad games they are not just going to sit him with no explanation and not let him in the game at all. Bad decision imo by Whiz hopefully the team doesn't suffer from it.

I think the opposite of this is true, It sends a message to ALL players that says 'I don't care who you are, or what you think your status is here, if you don't perform, we'll try someone else.

a) Edge is older and slower than he has been and b) even running "well" against St. Louis, he only averaged 3.9 ypc. I know that's good for Edge, but that's still pretty incredibly mediocre. As opposed to Hightower, who rushed for 4.9 ypc, a full 1 yard more than Edge. Sure Edge might have gotten his 90, but it would have taken him 27 carries to probably do it. Not exactly the model of efficiency.

Again we will see what the rookie has but to just assume he is going to be some great back after a good game against a bad team is silly. Edge will get the yardage will all those carries too, and he won't stall the offense by losing yards, but whatever beleive what you want.

just because people believe Hightower's better than Edge at this point doesn't mean "they think he's a great back". He's just better than Edge, who at this point is a bad starting running back. And again, Edge might gets those yards, but it's gonna take him about 7 or 8 more carries to get there. Again, in his first start of his career Hightower averaged 4.9 yards per carry. Do you realize that in his last 35 games, Edge has only averaged 4.9 yards per carry THREE TIMES in that span?

All I know is if we were playing a good team we would have lost that game, a lot of things went our way like a couple of gift TD's. If our offense is that out of sync again as it was in the first half of that game it may cost us.

the offense scored more points in the first half on the road than it has all season and even with that being said, two drives were killed not because of Hightower but because Fitz (somewhat incredibly at this point) dropped two absolute gimme first downs. Still, I'll take that "out of synch-ness", 17 points and 300 total yards in the first half any day of the week and especially twice of Sunday.

maybe that's because Q doesn't have 5 of 6 games where he's been completely useless... or a couple underwhelming seasons in a row under his belt... or because he's not a complete has-been or because once the season started, QB shut his mouth and just decided to play football and on and on and on.

This is what I think SoCal was getting at:

The Cards were so bad at rushing in 2005 that people tend to think those abysmal stats apply for the past several years.

However here are the rushing stats going back to 2000 prior to James:

2004 Smith and Hambrick combined for 330 carries 1220 yards 3.7 average
2003 Shipp and Smith 318 carries 1086 yards 3.4 average
2002 MShipp and TJones 326 carries 1345 yards 4.1 average
2001 MPittman and TJones 353 carries 1226 yards 3.5
2000 Mpittman and TJones 296 1092 3.7 average

SoCal correct me if my assumption is incorrect.

LINK? SOURCE? Maybe I missed it, but I believe that Whiz sat Edge down long before they boared the plane to St. Louis. Like all week long in practice, I would think TH was running with the first team, don't you? I don't think any coach would just leave it until game day and not say a word, and I don't believe that you believe what you're spewing either. Step away from the Edge love and look at reality. It's ok to move forward.

While I will agree he misses some opportunities because of lack of quickness, he also makes something out of nothing due to his experience. I think Tim did great, but I want to see more then one start before I anoint him a god. As far as the glasses, I prefer not to use them, can't see the ugly people that way.:D

Pretty much.

My point is, Edge has averaged the same crappy numbers, that almost every back before him had.

The reason for his 1000+ yard seasons, was not having to split carries anywhere near as much as his predecessors. hey, He's "Edge" right??

The people here that worship Edge, completely fail to see that he has accomplished nothing more than all the backs before him, he just got a hell of a lot more $$ for mediocrity than they did.

This is why I am surprised that posters talk about the Cards needing to go to the "two back system". They had a 2 back system for years. All it got them was 5-11.
