We have seen very little from the he Edge. I assume he is saving his body for when it counts which is alright with me. Any one else want to speculate on this.

I remember back in the day LT meant Lawrence Taylor not that dang yun wipper snapper LaDainian Tomlinson.

It's hard to do that until you get the timing down under live-fire conditions. Until this is ironed out, I'm going to be a wee bit nervous.

What he can't handle is someone running freely at him when he gets the ball, this is about coaching, all Looney has to do is get them to lock up their man without holding for a split second and not whiff.

john h said:Listening to a couple of ex NFL players/announcers on Sports Center the other day. They were talking about the very large OL of the Cards and how Denny liked big guys. A couple of them commented that many teams are going to smaller very athletic as opposed to big and the NFL is trending that way. What say you all to that?
conraddobler said:Yeah, he uniquely goes for the open spot, it's only unique to us because our backs just run into people and fall down.
It's not like Edge had an all world line to run behind, he wasn't behind the Chiefs line, so if we signed Priest Holmes in his hay day and expected that to help, yeah you'd have a point.
If you watch the Indy line, they didn't blow people off the ball, they simply occupied a guy, that's all he's asking for, just get in front of your man and at least occupy him for just a second.

Now some runners need a hole to open up pretty wide to get through, this is not Edge, he has great field vision and the ability to make the first guy miss, that does not require a great line, just adequate.
There's nothing special about it, just normal run into your man and at least make him fight his way around you, they do not have to drive block him 4 yards back.
Great O lines open holes like Dallas in it's hay day, you watch tapes of that and Adams and Allen literally opened a hole you could drive a truck through, we don't need that type of line because Edge never had that type of line, that type of line is like KC has and it's awesome but then if you have that, you end up lacking something like the WR's we have or Indy has, Dallas was the last team to have all of it because they were the last pre cap dynasty.
Edge likes the stretch play for a reason, the field is by definition stretched out, if our Oline locks up their man for a second the field is now stretched out, he sees downfield where the backers are and he picks a spot to avoid them, they can't cover it all, only the aforementioned free runner is going to bring him down behind the line, that's all we have to avoid, that's coaching, talent has little to do with it.
Edge is not dumb at all, when he thought of comming here he's got the HOF to think about along with the $, he knows our line stank and needs help, he probably heard enough when we said we'd get some FA help and a new good O line coach, he's cool with all that because he knows that Boldin and Fitz and Johnson are going to run guys off the LOS, if Pope is a threat too then he's in heaven, there's at least one backer gone too, so if the linemen are occupied he's got a backer and maybe a safety to beat, he's going to abuse at least one of them.
