The barber shop and barber are legit and have legit ties to Payton and other NBA players.

He could be the Suns solution for the PG problem if they go big in the draft.

I would love to think we have that kind of option but the kid disappeared at the end of the season. He is a loon. We only resign him if he is really cheap.

Well, the Suns will get the chance to match any offers.

How did you come across the pictures if you don't mind me asking?

I doubt they extend him the QO.
They probably extend the QO. They can rescind it if they want to sign someone. If he accepts it, the cap hit is not bad. The qualifying offer is $4.5 million, but the cap hold for him during free agency will be somewhere around $10 million until he is signed. The Suns can come to terms with another player during the negotiating period and still maintain control of Payton, but it will be tricky.

I don't think they'll keep the qualifying offer out there for long, if at all. I can see them offering a contract right away as sort of a take it or leave it, not sure how much that would be for but probably around $5-6 million a year. That way they don't need to deal with a cap hit that is double that.

That is a reasonable prediction. The only reason they might keep the QO out there longer is to get something back in a S&T, but honestly, I don't think Payton is going to command that much in salary or trade value.

I'm glad he's finally cut his hair...I don't have strong feelings either way about Payton. I see enough potential to believe that a good coach along with some better players could turn his career around. If he wants to be here, at a reasonable price, and assuming we get our choice of a big man in this draft, I'd be okay with signing him.

I think he's kind of a head case..his hair thing...then his "feels like '06" comment. He just seems flakey... he's shown some talent but the way he tailed off and fizzled out. I'm just turned off now. I dont know if a coach can fix his head.

Yes. I tend to agree. Sign Bud and let him figure it out.

I'm not sure he's not but I'd hesitate to judge any new player walking into this situation. I'd expect that someone in management is in the know as far as what kind of person he is. I don't see a lot of good options for the PG spot this season unless that's what falls to us in the draft.

I think Payton could be a good backup PG but given his age and how he's coming off of his rookie contract he's probably not ready to settle into that sort of position. I can live with him being retained, especially since he cut his hair, but I would hope the Suns wouldn't sign him for any more than 3 years and $20 million. If he's given a 4th year as a team option that would be fine. I think that might be a little much annually but since the cap has shot up mid-tier talent has either been grossly overpaid or underpaid around the league. The Mid Level Exception is now about $8.4 million annually when it was just over $5 million with the previous cap and it's due to rise this next season.

Thats true...we don't have any pg options. I just dont want another Len situation where he's good like half the time. But I guess we have to consider him... I thought this wasn't a good pg market right now either so that makes things harder.

Then there are Doncic and Young.... Heck if we draft Ayton we may not care or even think about Payton much.

The "3 years for 20 million" I could live with that. I like the backup idea too. But if we don't draft a pg he may end up our first string pg...ugh.

There is more than Doncic and Young available in this draft. There is also Collin Sexton and Shai Gligeous-Alexander. I don't think we'll have a shot at Young, if we do it's because we fell to #4 in the lottery drawing. We might be able to get Shai with the Miami pick and moving up to get Sexton is more realistic than moving up for Young because Sexton could be available at #11 or #12 while I can't see Young falling from the top 10.
