Isn't it buffoon, or perhaps in this case BAfoon? Whatever, Mendy sucks but he ain't going anywhere and I maintain he still may contribute, so why pile on?

Because Shane is the Ritchie Incognito of ASFN. Piling on is all he knows.

I wonder sometimes if there is more to the story other than BA's pride. It just seems pretty obvious that Ellington is the better RB. I know BA can see it. There has to be something else going on.

Maybe he has a 10 start clause in his contract

I think BA is worried that Ellington will get hurt if he uses him to much. He is a small dude and that's the only reason I can think of to let Mendenhall start.

no...I don't expect him to say Mendy sucks, but i also don't expect him to blow smoke up our asses and call it his best game and relieve him of having a crucial/awful fumble.

I care that he "starts" because a) it means the offense is hampered right off the bat (which it was when he did nothing on his first two runs and we went 3 and out) and b) because the "starter" got more touches then Ellington and I'm betting his snap count was higher as well.

as to your comment "rest assured he'll get his touches"? people said this last week before the game, he didn't get the same amount of touches and then you say it again? and it's not even just about "touches". it's about what having Ellington on the field means for the entire offense and the opposing defense, even when he's not getting the ball. He has to be accounted for, which opens the offense up.

BINGO!

I think he's managing Ellingtons touches to ensure he doesn't hit the wall this season, Im also quite sure he's not an idiot and can see and compare the performance on the field. Further Im fairly certain he's smart at publicly praising his back, who he will need to continue to rely on, in some form or another throughout the remainder of the season. Additionally, Im quite sure lots of different things are said that we as fans are not privy to. Finally, I absolutely LOVE how people repeatedly speak in absolutes about this situation. You know, the one I just reminded them that they cant possibly know everything that there is to know. I don't visit other team boards, but our most loyal fans (based on post counts here), have to be some of the most fickle n'er-do-well, scared-to simply-appreciate-a-win people to ever strap on a six pack and remote control.

I want more touches and snaps for Andre as much as the next guy, but also consider that we are still in the playoff hunt and WILL need to rely on Mendy as the veteran come that time. Edgerrin James anyone? There is SOME value to making sure he feels right at home and confident. That being said, Ellington still needs to see more time on the field. Period.

Ill go back to edge and tht - when whiz removed tht from his role as the change of pace, 3rd down back- tht fell on his face! Starting and producing - wearing down a defense is not what Ellington best serves this team as, at this time- go ba

Chris Johnson is 5'11" 200 lbs and has no issues with durability.

Ellington is 5'9" 200 lbs. THus he's more muscular and better built.

Give the kid the rock and stop limiting him. If he gets hurt then so be it.

Very well said, from the first sentence to the last. Definitely seems to be managing his touches, and the "Rookie Wall" has to be in BA's thought process. And thank you for the reminder about appreciating a win. That's right on.

Trust me I was yelling at my TV on Sunday and tweeting up a storm. Reminded me of Wiz. But to be fair he did have his season long run (12 yds) and did play a big part in the best drive of the season IMO. I was incensed on that last fumble but that was ridiculous. I was sure i heard whistles and defintely should have been anyway. Also that was JJ Watt puling that ball away.

Not making excuses for him. I was totally totally pissed and LOVE Ellington. This is the double edged sword of a players coach. Hes gonna have their backs and stick by them and he has done that becasue A) he wanted Mendy to sign here and likely assured him certain things as he is on one year deal and B) he has produced for him before in PIT. He chose him over Bush for Gods sakes.

Definitely pissed but I wont get worked up about Arians comments. Thats what make him so beloved. Got to get Ellignton the ball though and I will yell every Sunday till he does.

Reminds me of the opposite of Whis actually. Edge was playing poorly during our magical year and Whiz yanked him, only to play him again in the playoffs. Only difference is that BA is sticking with his back, because he knows he's going to need him late in the year. Maybe he just feels a little skittish about playing 2 rooks heavily late in an NFL season. It's not a crime. And frankly Ellington's getting some good touches for being a rook. He's certainly getting more than Charles and some of the other backs did as rookies. I'd definitely love to see him around 20 or 25 touches but I don't know how realistic that is late in an NFL season. If we somehow make the playoffs, I'd bet his carries skyrocket.

There is no maybe about it. Mendenhall is the better blocker and Arians has said so. I think the reason he gets so many carries is so the other team can't just assume that if he is in the game it is a pass.

Stop letting logic get in the way of the tub thumpers!

Agree. If you have an impact RB on the roster you use him to your advantage.

Never know if any points he helps put up in the first quarter will be the difference in the game. Waiting to put him in cuts down on the opportunities for big plays.

he continually makes excuses for the guys (Mendy, Palmer) that he brought in to start for his offense (while having no problem blaming Fitz, Floyd, Roberts, Housler, Levi for the offenses problems), which has been woeful for the most part. Pride's getting in the way of making this offense better...

yet he sticks with teh same players. I'd rather have a coach keep on keeping in then have a coach make changes on the fly. Its a long season and we are only half way through.
