At his afternoon press conference, McGinnis announced that Emmitt Smith has a fractured scapula, and that he will be out "indefinitely... for weeks."

We're gonna see what Shipp's got, folks.

Yes. Martay did fracture his scapula. There are certain types of fractures that are more severe than others. Coach Mac did not know the extent of the fracture. He had just found out minutes before the presser.

Regardless, he will be out for a long time.

I was extremely impressed with anderson in the preaseason...and Scobey has alot better vision and speed than I thought he would (based on kickoff returns). Lets see what they have...

Well now I feel like I can look forward to Sundays again so I can watch my team again and see what we have for the future - I can look forward to Sundays because Shipp is our future and never should have planted on the bench to begin with - it's sad that Emmitt had to go down to injury to give a new lease on the season for me - but it's true - Now this is not to say that I think we were losing because Emmitt was out there - this team is so bad it doesn't really matter, but what I don't want to watch is a rebuilding team handing the ball off to a has been and someone I have loathed throughout his career while taking away development time from our featured back. Go get 'em Marcel.

In other roster news, Bryant Johnson and Jason McAddley are both out; according to McGinnis, McAddley still has "bleeding in the hamstring" and is nowhere close to returning. Kevin Kasper is expected to play on Sunday, and the available WRs will be Boldin, Gilmore, Kasper and Poole.

Wonder if Boldin is still returning punts? If not, then who, with Johnson out and Foster gone?

wildcard..that is a good question.. Of the 4 guys returning punts in training camp - 3 are out or gone (newhouse, foster, johnson and boldin). I would assume nate poole or damien anderson will be back there in practice working as backups.. but that is just a guess...

Can we resign Foster without having to cut someone? Probably not, they ought to consider putting McAddley on IR and signing Foster to return punts because Anquan shouldn't be returning them.

Just like last year, Shipp is going to show us why he's the running back for the team. I keep hearing about how teams were more afraid of what Marcel would do to them than Emmitt. Now, maybe, just maybe, we can get something going.

russ: foster was given an injury settlement and cut..if we sign him a week later - he must not have been very injured.

arnold jackson is still available
...jackson cannot be a receiver and his returning went downhill after his rookie season - but he rarely made errors - he was just not very good.. :D

I missed the injury settlement part of that release thanks.

At this point someone who could catch the ball and not make the poor decisions Anquan has on punts would be welcomed.

Coach Mac praised Anquan for catching the punt on the five. He cited the three Cowboys on the goal line waiting for the ball while it was still in the air. He said that the ball was coming "straight down" and would have been downed on the 1 yd line anyway.

At the time of the play, both Pasch and Mistler said the same thing and did not fault Anquan. It was clear that the three Cowboys were in prime position to down it.

He did rip Johnson for letting the ball bounce at the 11 yd line and ending up at the 1 yd line.

Mea culpa, several mentioned it, I didn't see the game so I assumed it was a bad choice by Anquan like the one leading to the fumble against Detroit.

I was sad to hear about Smith's injury last night (and immediately thought of the few posters here who had said his pride was what was hurt more than anything). I feel really bad for Emmitt, though I'm happy to see Marcel get the start.

It's a little ironic that, even though he's not a Cowboy anymore, that Emmitt's possible last game was still in Texas Stadium. Her's hoping Emmitt is feeling better soon.

No he's not. Jackson signed with the Ottawa Renegades of the CFL two weeks ago.

I wanted Emmitt here and I still think - when he becomes healthy again - he can still play. But I didn't think it was "all about Emmitt" going into the Dallas game and I don't think it's "all about Emmitt" coming out of the Dallas game.

We have no reason to feel queasy about handing Shipp the rock, and Anderson and Scooby have proved they can step in and deliver too if needed.

But far more important than Emmitt's ups and downs is - where the other 52 other Cardinals' heads are at and whether this team that's playing so badly can do what's necessary to turn it around.
