Arizona more stable than Tampa?

NFL Insider: Smith speaks out on Dallas

Now that he's an Arizona Cardinal, Emmitt Smith has a few things to say about his former team, the Dallas Cowboys.
As a paid speaker at the recent Sports Edge Retail Summitt in Dallas, Smith said Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones will initially give Coach Bill Parcells all the room he needs, but the two will eventually clash. Smith also said he doesn't think Parcells will be in Dallas for the long haul.
''I think Jerry and Bill is going to work out fine initially,'' Smith said. ''I really expect Bill at some point to get tired again and to get worn out, and to say, 'I'm ready to leave.' I hope that it does not happen. I hope that he doesn't leave the Cowboys like he left the Jets, or even the Patriots.
''I don't see Bill having any issues with Jerry coming down on the field. I don't expect that stuff to change at all. If there is going to be any clash, I think it will be at some point with Bill and Jerry seeing eye-to-eye on a particular player. Right now, Jerry has had enough of losing over the last three or four years that he is going to shut his mouth and allow Bill to do what he needs to do.''
Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, was waived by Dallas on Feb. 27. He said his exit from the Cowboys would help Parcells put his stamp on ''America's Team'' because, in short, the highest-profile player would not be around as a potential distraction.
Smith also stirred things up in Tampa when he alluded to a growing feud between Buccaneers Coach Jon Gruden and GM Rich McKay as the reason he didn't sign with the Super Bowl champions.
Gruden was repeatedly heard by several coaches and personnel executives criticizing McKay at the NFL meetings last month because of McKay's conservative approach to free agency.
''There was a power struggle going on down there,'' Smith said. ''When you see what was going on in Arizona, and how badly they wanted me from head to toe, versus what was going on down in Tampa, I didn't want to fool with it.''
Arizona is at Dallas on Oct. 5.
