Eric Gordon, yes or no?

The Suns are committed to offering Gordon a maximum contract, but they aren't committed to engaging in sign-and-trade discussions if the Hornets are going to match. So, now that the Suns have added Beasley and Dragic in the last 24 hours, they could gracefully walk away from Gordon. They could say that they couldn't come to terms in a sign-and-trade, then make their offer and let the Hornets match it.

So, how much is Gordon worth at this point?

I posted this in another thread:

Signing Gordon to a max deal makes no sense... at his best (when healthy) he's a borderline all-star. The Suns had to overpay him with a max deal to try to get NO not to match & that's a horrible deal for a team that's unlikely to make the playoffs even if NO doesn't match & they get Gordon.

The Suns won't have a single all-star caliber player on their roster next season. There's no way they'll be able to compete with the Miami's & OKC's of the NBA and those teams should dominate for the next 3-5 years. Gordon's a piece that should be added to a playoff team to put them into contention for a title... not a piece added to a rebuilding team that's going to get their butts handed to them on a nightly basis. Unless this team miraculously gels & plays amazing basketball, I see him demanding a trade by next off-season.

Lopez + future lottery protected Suns pick.

Lopez + 2013 Lakers pick.

Marshall straight-up.

That's as far as I'd go.

They can have Frye and a late pick and the Lakers 2nd rounders.;

I'd give them Gortat if they took on Childress in exchange.

Of course you would. No need to "throw in" one of the better C's in the league just to get rid of Childress when he can be amnestied instead.

Getting rid of Childress without amnestying is a lot better than paying him 30M$.

Warrick could be amnestied, heck Channing Frye looks like an attractive option to be amnestied.

That may have been appealing had the Suns had a shot at Hibbert but there is really no one else the Suns can get in free agency as good as Gortat.

let him walk, and get Mayo for somewhere half as cheap.

Gordon will not make or break this team in comparison to if we sign Mayo. There wouldn't be that much of a difference whether we had Mayo or Gordon. Mayo has been healthier. although he has had crappy playoff performances, it won't matter cause we aren't contending anyway. Gordon i dont think has had any playoff experience at all.

save some cap space for the next couple of years, along with our picks, expiring contracts, and amnesty clause. we could have cap room to add to our okay talent over the next couple of years.

I would offer Lopez, couple of LA picks, but definitely not our own.
On the other hand, I'd be OK with the Suns walking away, and going after Harden next year or pursue him right now. I am OK with either option, but I wouldn't give up a whole lot for Gordon. If they take a bad contract (Frye or Chilli) send them Lopez, Telfair, and all Lakers picks.

Exactly. Though I have a hard time seeing anyone take Childress, people have to understand that this is a business. Wether or not the Childress counts against the salary cap it will still have an impact on the team and they decisions they make. They still have to account for the amount of cash going out as it relates to the revenues they bring in (which are likely to decrease with the struggles ahead).

Our protected first + Lopez

Lakers 2013 and the first 2nd rounder + Lopez

All would be on the table.

In a van...down by the river.
I'm cool with just letting the Hornets decide his fate. I'm not ready to start wheelin & dealing our future picks just yet.

I'd like to see Gordon end up here, but if the Hornets do match it?.....Meh,we'll have other options next year.

Dragic can play some off-guard next to Marshall for one season.

I get the feeling they accepted the package of picks from L.A. with the idea of offering them to N.O. for Gordon. I'm ok with that, but I'd like to see them hold onto the 2015 1st.

Don't give up anything. We need those picks for two things.

1. Actually using them to take a chance to see if the player can help
2. Trading some of them to move up to take a chance on a better player to see if that player can help

If we get Gordon fine. If we don't. We suck more. Get a better draft pick. Still have space next year (or later).

Or have cap space to net more picks around the deadline.

Of course we should renounce Brooks. Either let Lopez go or re-sign him cheaply.

Save the amnesty. This time next year, we might want it to be used on Frye.

I'd give up the 2013 pic from the Nash trade. Its going to be the worse of Miami or LA's pick anyway, so it will likely be the last of the first round.

But I wouldn't dink around with it. If they hesitate just make em match. Get Mayo lined up.

Let them match and move on. Get O.J. Mayo or Lou Williams if they don't want the moon.

Keep the picks, save the cap space and parlay into someone next season....or the one after that...or....

Do people actually want Lou Williams? At what cost? I mean I'm already thinking we are going to play with a small backcourt a lot of times. If we pay Williams we are going to be running an undersized backcourt almost always.

I would prefer we didn't get Gordon or Mayo. I really don't like the whole direction of this off-season. It's exactly what I feared. However I'll be absolutely livid if they give away anything worthwhile in a sign and trade for Gordon.

By the way, what's the punishment for being too far under the salary cap?

Don't panic and overpay for Mayo. A Beasley type deal is fine. But he's going to get paid with the Mavericks and Rockets scrambling.

Just bring back Brown / Redd. Maybe even consider Barbosa on a reasonable deal since I think he is a UFA.

No punishment, but the team must take the difference between its payroll and minimum required payroll and distribute that among its players. So regardless of how low the payroll is, each team will always pay at least the minimum.

Nick Young got a 1 year, $6 million deal from Philly. That would have been the perfect deal for us had we struck out on Gordon early.
