LOL... that's very generous of you to offer our two most worthless players and our worst contract in return for NO's best player at this point.

Agree. Gordon will be playing in NO next year and the Suns will have a team that no one will really want to see.

if next year is the complete bottom out that's fine with me. it's two years too late, but better late then never.

Gordon is a big but worthy risk as a free agent. If the Suns have to give up major pieces the risk is too great. I'd give them a lottery protected #1, no more.

If NO matches they're stuck with his contract.

At this point I'm almost more interested in the story line of him returning to NOH. He's already made it clear he doesn't want to be there and upset the fans. I can only imagine how much animosity there will be on both sides if he misses significant time again.

We aren't hearing any rumors about a sign-and-trade, and the 11th is fast approaching. It's starting to look like the Suns are prepared to sign Gordon outright and let New Orleans match.

Gordon and Mayo have the same agent. I wonder if Mayo is lined up for us when the Hornets likely match. If so, that's a risky strategy for Mayo if New Orleans were to not match. Waiting until the 14th could cause many teams to turn their attention elsewhere. Mayo for a similar contract to Beasley would be palatable. That would leave the Suns plenty of room to re-sign Lopez and more than likely give them room for another max deal when Warrick comes off the books and Childress is amnestied.

No part of building a championship caliber team involves throwing a player like Gordon a max contract and building around him.

I hope they refuse to negotiate a S/T and keep him.

I'm leaning this way too. I don't enjoy your negative posts about Beasley, but I think you're right on about Gordon. Lets fill out the roster with one year rentals and look to spend next year. Depending on what Lopez signs for we could offer a $6M'ish deal to someone now and still have enough for a max deal next Summer if we amnesty Childress and let Warrick & Telfair walk. The problem is we'd still be mediocre. A one star team with five guys (Dragic, Beasley, Gortat, Frye, and whoever else we sign this year) making $6-7.5M. I'm not sure you build a winning franchise that way, but I suppose it's alright for now. It's a weird strategy. None of the pieces alone will necessarily be hard to move in the future if we so choose it. I'm not sure I've seen a team where someone like Gortat ($7.2M) is your highest paid player.

Good take. Taking the one year rental route will not only let us evaluate talent at low risk, but also give us flexibility moving forward and probably a top 5 pick.

Also agree that even if we do wait and sign a max next year, even if it is a good max deal, we still have plenty of work to do to become a contender. We'll definitely need to hit the jackpot in next years draft, and hope that one of our FA signings turns into a star.

Well, Im not looking for a quick fix. The money they've thrown around this summer, even if they actually get Gordon, puts together a below average team without a lot of cap space, or hope of stumbling into a good draft slot.

Rebuilding teams try to avoid having guys on big contracts. The Suns are trying to rebuild in one summer right now, and but all they are constructing is a fringe playoff team.

I popped into a hornet forum to see their thoughts on the issue... and wow... those guys make Blazer fans seem down to earth.

They seem to think their coach is some genius mix of Pops and Phil Jackson, a strategic mastermind who can get the maximum out of any player, that their current core is a likely dynasty, and that Gordon is worth, at minimum, 2 unprotected 1sts, Gortat and Marshall.

Woa that's insane. We should just walk away if NO decides to match.

Fan talk.

The second Gordon is out the door without getting anything near that, those same fans will have cognitive dissonance, stating that he wasn't worth it.

I agree, I was just floored by the extreme levels of homerism. But, I suppose after landing a top pick their spirits are high.

Yeah nothing like Suns fans talking about getting Josh Smith and/or Childress(when he was a productive prospect) plus first round picks.....

Reading the Hornets boards is basically a mirror of the Suns boards when the JJ ordeal played out. Only real difference is Hawks boards were much more excited about getting JJ than Suns fans are about getting Gordon.

Cause JJ had a good run in the western conference finals. Was never injure-prone, except for breaking his face which was not his fault

Hornets fans already hate him. They want him gone but they want to get A LOT for him.

Like seriously, its Eric Gordon not LeBron James.

Most of their offers include Gortat, all Lakers picks, Dudley, and our 2013 unprotected pick.

Once they start playing, I'm sure it smooths out quickly. He's still getting paid the max after all.
