From ESPN.com - Insider:

At the top of a lot of NFL franchises' draft boards in 1998, keeping company with an elite group that also included quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Ryan Leaf, was Andre Wadsworth, a pure upfield pass-rusher from Florida State and projected by nearly every league scout as a perennial double-digit sack threat...

Link (for Insider subscribers): http://insider.espn.go.com/nfl/insider/columns/story?columnist=pasquarelli_len&id=2743573

Summary: Andre is attempting to resurrect his career by trying out for Tampa Bay next week. He's been working out, and is back to his original 1998 Draft weight of 278.

Discuss amongst yourselves...I'm feeling verklempt...

I wish him all the best. One of the nicest Cards players I ever met.

Do you the Cardinals still technically own his rights?

It's been 9 seasons since he was drafted and what, 5 since he played so it would be amazing if he made it.

This sound like B.S. to me. Wadsworth left due to his awful knees; time doesn't heel those to the point you can regain the days of old.

If he can come back, he should play for the Cardinals. For free.

Come on Wad$. Ease your consious. You know your knees didn't go bad in 1year. You held out for that big signing bonus and then retired. You stole that money.

Why do you doubt him? You think he wanted to wash out of the NFL?

I liked Wads. I hope he makes it.

Of course he did Jason. "All these teams think that I'm the most sure thing in the draft, the next Bruce Smith but, they don't know what I know - my knees are about to give out on me. I'm so money."

People need to remember, the Arizona Cardinals released Wadsworth before offering a one year, $512,000 tender that was eventually pulled off the table within days after it went unsigned. The team quit on him.

?

The Cardinals. the unfortunate organization that paid him a huge signing bonus, those cheap ********, after he held out into the regular season. Only to play at a solid-level for one year and then out.

By his choice? Your post implies that he knew that his knees were going to give out on him and tried to get as much money as he could before anyone found out. I don't blame the Cardinals for quiting on him. I probably would have as well if I was the GM. But that is what happened.

How many guys did we lose to injuries or stupidity from '99-05? It was like there was some great conspiracy to rid the Cardinal fans of as many of their favorite players as possible every year.

That is exactly what I am saying.

He cashed out on the Cardinals. He knew he was damaged goods, knees don't go bad in one year.

"Cards quit on him", give me a break.

Which year did he play at a solid level? I must have missed it.

It drives me crazy when people imply Wadsworth was ever solid, let alone anywhere within a million miles of where he was billed to be, during his spectacular holdout in Summer 98. I remember when he signed the night before the Dallas game, his idiot agent said Andre would be ready to play tomorrow. Yeah.
