Zarko Cabarkapa
Power Forward | 7-0, 235 | Draft Player Card
Serbia/Montenegro
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Chad Ford's Pick: The rumor has been flying around for weeks that Cabarkapa is the Suns' guy. Apparently everyone in the West feels like they need a Nowitizki-type player, and the Suns have Cabarkapa pegged as that guy. Cabarkapa is a fine shooter, has a great handle and is pretty mature at age 22. Nice player who can fit several roles.

Andy Katz's Take: The Suns are linked to a promise for Cabarkapa. This pick shouldn't be a total surprise. The Suns aren't expecting to get a major player, let alone a definite role player, for next season. Phoenix could really take its time working Cabarkapa into a major contributor for next season. Phoenix could also opt for high school seniors Ndudi Ebi or Travis Outlaw ... or Brian Cook and Luke Ridnour, who also are still on the board.

Either Andy Katz hasn't been doing his homework, where he is completely disregarding Bryan Colangelo's recent comments. BC says the Suns are looking for somebody who CAN make a significant contribution to make season. He also said the Phoenix Suns would not take Ebi and they strongly encouraged him through his adviser to go to school.

I don't think the Suns need a major contributor next year from the draft. The Suns won 44 games last year and even forfieted their last 2 because they had already qualified for the playoffs. That's 44 wins with some major injuries to 2 starters (3 if you count Googs). If they can simply be healthy next season they should win more than 44 games without a draft pick contribution. Plus the improvement of their current players should help them win more games.

I think it would be great to find a gem at #17 that can contribute right away, but a project wouldn't be that bad as long as he has a lot of potential.

I don't get why ESPN keep insisting we like Ebi. First Chad Ford was saying it and now Katz. No other team has even considered taking him in the 1st round to my knowledge, so what makes them think we would? Just because we got a one in a million high schooler last season and lucked out? And like Joe said, BC has said that the Suns would NOT take Ebi and don't think he's ready for the NBA.
