Unfortunately that is going to happen regardless of who is coach. The Suns simply don't have the talent anymore to compete at an elite level. It's part of the natural life cycle of any team that sells its future in an attempt to maximize its present.

Definitely didn't maximize our present. We sold our future for sure, but no maximization was apparent.

The Sarver Spin Machine is thick with deceit in their official statement.

"As we have continued to convey, we value Mike D'Antoni as the head coach of the Phoenix Suns and would like him to continue leading this basketball team," Kerr said in late morning team release. "Because he has requested to speak to other teams about their head coaching vacancies, we have granted him permission. We will have no further comment until this process further evolves."

Kerr is doing more than re-prioritizing the team's goals. He's basically taking one big gamble after another and altering the face of this team--acquiring Shaq lead to dumping Marion, and now D'Antoni is heading for the door.

You guys don't realize that after D'Antoni leaves, we will look back next season and begin making comparisons. If Steve Kerr can not supersede what D'Antoni accomplished in his 4+ seasons with the Suns, then everyone will be calling Kerr a failure and calling D'Antoni's departure--albeit voluntary to a certain extent--a big mistake.

Mark my words. Just sit back and watch how the 08-09 season unfolds. And when you see this team turn to mediocrity while New Orleans and LA recapture the West, don't say I didn't warn you.

Very likely a possibility. Aside that Kerr is a GM and Sarver kept his powder dry (money)... maybe a Joe Johnson type mistake and much, much more. Just this past season the Suns gave up KT and James Jones plus two first round draft picks. And I'm not even mentioning Marion... at worse he would have been an expiring contract after this coming season.

The good news is that with 1 or 2 really great moves the Suns can be right back at the top, the challange of course is can a team that seems to come up lopsided on every move they do capable of hitting on something?

The problem is they had expiring contracts KT and Marion. These could have been used to retool. Now they have no expiring contacts for a few years, and one pick(#15). Retooling will mean that nash will be most valuable as an expiring contract after next year. Get used to watching the hornets, lakers and rockets thump the suns for a few years.
