You didn't read what I wrote. It's not that it's a 7 year contract. It's that he would pick up his option year and have 6 additional years on top of that. So in essence, you would have him for 7 years.

The six plus one was never more than a theoretical construct, so I stopped considering it once the max money debate stared. Yes, he could keep the 2010-2011 money, but this was taking the lenght beyond what even the most pro-Amare guys considered.

In any case, it has been obvious that Amare was going to wait for the bids and that "at best" Sarver would match the highest bid.

Amare will get the FA max. Sarver will give Miami a pick to do sign and trade just to get the huge TA, which he could use to accommodate other teams trades and acquire some picks along the way. Or, maybe they'd just take Beasley off Miami's hands and call it a day.

Sad to say, but last season's proposed trade with Cleveland is not looking as bad. At least the Suns would have gotten something out of Stoudemire (if he walks for nothing). Hickson and Szczerbiak's expiring contract would have been something.

If he Suns sign then Boozer nothin lost.

I'm thinking that Boozer may want more than the Suns are willing to pay or he may be courted more. As mentioned before, Gooden might be a more realistic option. However, nothing wrong with wanting Boozer. The Suns should have drafted him with their second first round pick in the year Amare was drafted.

Sign and trade. Amare would be silly not to take the extra money. If market determines value like so many of you are saying, then we should get decent value in return by one of these teams looking to make a splash. Lock him up, then ship. However, if we miscalculate the market, and find no team wants him, well that would be a slow, torturous death indeed.

I'm actually liking Boozer more than Amare. His ppg would go up playing with Nash and his rebounds would be great feeding the rest of the Suns.

On a side note I'd like to see how Amare does with NO Nash.

I don't know either of those guys on a personal level. However, on a personal level I have a lot more respect for Amare than I will ever have for Boozer. The manner in which he left Cleveland still bugs me. And from a basketball standpoint I still like Amare more than Boozer. If Carlos is a lot cheaper than Amare that's one thing but I suspect he'll demand a similar salary. I don't see how Boozer enters into our plans anyway.

I'm sure Amare would love to get the extra money. However, I'm not as convinced that there will be sufficient bidding interest in the guy to drive his price to that level. There are several teams that would probably want/settle for him as an FA signing but a much smaller market that might be willing to include trade value at the same time.

Maybe they are releasing this article to see what people's reaction is to Amare's leaving? It could be just a bluff from Amare's agent.

Man, Amare is really determined to get that 6-year max.

This time of year you can't believe everything you read but it does really seem like Amare is looking for the biggest payday more than anything else. I will be totally blown away if he takes a little less to be on a great team.

I am waiting for ANY player to do that. It will never happen, but the players like Lebron keep saying all they want is a ring. Then take the mid level exception for a year Lebron and play for the Lakers! :D

Players only do that when they're nearing retirement, and all they're going to get is a something like a year and an option regardless of the team. Or when they're nearing the end of the long-term deal Amare wants, and make it known that they won't re-sign and want to be traded to a contender who will pick up the remainder and possibly re-sign them if it goes well.

Owner Robert Sarver and coach Alvin Gentry are planning to meet with Amar’e Stoudemire next week in Chicago and offer him a contract extension, but a source called it “pretty bleak” that the Suns will be able to convince the All-Star forward to agree to a deal.

Phoenix is expected to offer a contract worth less than the maximum, which will lead him to opt out.

The Miami Heat and New York Knicks will be the top suitors for Stoudemire, with the Chicago Bulls and New Jersey Nets also expected to show interest.

Stoudemire was disappointed GM Steve Kerr and assistant GM David Griffin will not be with the club this season.

So far, it's hard to fault either side here. Management doesn't think Stoudemire is worth the maximum, he thinks he is, so he's going to test the market. If someone else really wants to pay him that, more power to them.

We'll see what happens when several big names get contracts and Stoudemire is still looking for his.

I find it funny Stoudemire is disappointed Kerr is gone since Kerr was his biggest detractor. Stoudemire was more likely to be involved in a sign-and-trade than offered the kind of money he wants if Kerr were still GM.

That said, I've got even money Suns let him walk without a fight.

Kerr was probably wanting to pay him max.

I don't want to sound negative but the NBA Draft is Thursday and there is no excitement especially picking #46 and #60. The NBA Draft used to be the biggest day of the year for me. Also Kerr is a lame duck GM and the same can be said of Griffin, VP of Basketball Operations. Amare is likely walking away for nothing. There just does seem to be any hope for the future of the Suns at this moment. I'm not hearing any positive vibes anywhere.

Does Sarver have a plan for the Suns or is it going to be even about saving more dollars? Nevermind, I think I know the answer.

If Amare walks can we throw max money at Chris Bosh?

I dont think it would happen but according to this, Bosh was one of the best pick and roll big men in the league last season:

"Teams with All-Star point guards in the fold will extract the most value from Bosh. In fact, according to Synergy, Bosh had more success finishing the pick-and-roll than screen virtuoso Stoudemire this past season. Bosh shot a staggering 81.4 percent on field goals resulting from rolls to the rim, a conversion rate only bested by Dwight Howard. And keep in mind, that's without an ultra-creative point guard to distract the defense off the screen. Ideally, Bosh's future team would also feature an athletic shot-blocker who can flank him inside and protect the rim ..."

From all reports I have read the Suns are only willing to use the MLE if the Suns lost Amare for nothing. This is not very encouraging. I'm not sure if the Suns would be even able to match FA offers for Frye.

Even though his firing is imminent, Pritchard in Portland is making draft trades. I would love to see Kerr explore trades but it's not like Sarver would let him make moves anyway.

Based on talent, this seems like a pretty boring draft but with the PF depth it would be very exciting to have the Utah/NY/Googs #9 pick right now, or even our own pick.

Yea, that would be nice but unfortunately the salary cap doesn't work that way. Just because we don't resign Amare that doesn't mean that we have that money to sign another player.
