He could be this year's Larsen, although Mathis is a much better player of course. But in terms of veteran depth he can fill in both guard spots and compete with Watford or whoever we draft. This would be a great signing. He has always caught my eye as a player who leaves it all on the field and loves the game.

that quote suxx...but for whatever it is worth.....the quality of a linemans play has a lot to do with the guys around him. a piss poor center and a sketchy tackle can make a guard look really bad.

on the other hand...if he was the one making the others look bad....damn.

Age doesn't matter if he can still play. He has proven it this year. It doesn't erase our need at RG. Beside Watford and our PS players, we need young talent there. But would you rather go into the season with Watford, a PS player and a draft pick battling it out at RG? Veteran leadership can't hurt our OL. Hence Mathis could be the veteran glue between a rookie center and Humphries, who is basically a rookie.
