I highly doubt they will be able recapture the charm of Dazed and Confused, but I will still give this a try.

the trailers are AWFUL, but it's gotten almost universal acclaim on rotten tomatoes with a 92% score. And it's super rare for Linklater to just completely miss the mark.

I'll probably watch it on a plane ride at some point.

HA. Yep. I am with you on this as well. I'm sure I'll watch it with low expectations

I can't tell if it's set in the late 70s or early 80s. If it's the 80s I'm watching for sure.

Looks like late 70s. Looks like a movie I will watch. Almost certain I won't watch it in theaters though.

What?!? The trailers were awesome. Just watched them and it said this is set in 1980.

Assuming the age in your profile is correct, you were a kid in the 80s like me. Just the setting alone makes the film worth watching, but this looks like it will be fun too.

I have a date with my ol'lady and some...uh,...margaritas.... to watch this on my birthday on may 21st,...on Starz...........pretty sure it will be on Starz by then.

the previews,....looks like a weekly commercial for eight is enough...does not look entertaining at all really.

But,it is an eighties flick...and is titled after a Van Halen song...so I have to watch it out of loyalty to my generation,...

and also because in 1980,...I was 12...stoned every day...eating shrooms or dropping sid every weekend,..and playing rhythm guitar in a garage band called RedRUM.....and from what I have heard over the years I missed quite a bit of the early eighties...maybe this movie can help me remember.....

oh hell yeah. Started smoking weed when I was six....we used to score some bad ass Columbian gold from this young MPD cop who had the hots for my sisters best friend,.....cops always had the best weed......later, when I was eight,..my mom married my step dad...he was the bondsman for the biker clubs in northern Cali...a couple of fellas from HA introduced me to purple haired indica...... I became one seriously skunky dude back then, lol.....several of those fellas had land in Humboldt(great weed grows in Humboldt) and were on the forefront of what later became known as "hydroponics"...those fellas were always experimenting with different ways to grow,.. increase yield, raise quality, etc....I'm a dinosaur I guess...but IMO you still get the best quality by growing in soft deep soil with bottom up watering...nothing produces THC content like stretching the taproot.

ended up seeing it last night... and my fears from the trailers were confirmed. I thought this was bad. Like REALLY bad... like if Linklater wasn't involved, I would have walked out. Dazed worked so well because I loved pretty much EVERY character in it. This one? Felt like someone writing snappy dialogue and trying to create great characters instead of real ones. And because I didn't give a crap about any character in it, the slice of life-ness of the movie, something the director does incredibly well in his other work, bored me to tears.

Had a couple moments and made me yearn for college, but not to be with these guys.

I really wanted to like this, but I agree, the characters were awful. Paper thin and unlikable. I kept waiting for a plot to develop but it never did. If there's no real plot then you'd better have some very interesting characters for me to get invested in.

However, I did get a kick out of the 80's clothes, references and music.
