SEATTLE — Memphis basketball's season hadn't been over for more than a few minutes, but the story had already moved on to next season.
Will PJ Haggerty, the Tigers' All-American, return for his redshirt junior year?
Haggerty struggled in Memphis' loss to Colorado State (26-9) in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Friday, scoring 18 points on 7-of-23 shooting. He's been a dominant force for the Tigers (29-6) this season, winning AAC player of the year and garnering consensus All-American honors. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Here's everything Haggerty said in the Tigers' locker room after the 78-70 loss.
"I don't really know right now. I didn't expect the season to go like this. But I'm going to just talk to my family, just be with my family."
"Heartbroken. We put a lot of work in throughout the season. For it to end like that, it's just heartbreaking."
"I wouldn't say nothing really wasn't working for me. I think I just missed some shots I normally make. At the end of the day, It happens, but I've still got to play how I play. I think I played good defense, rebounding, but some shots didn't fall."
"I think they did a good job on defense. They executed, played a lot of things good. I think we got a little lousy sometimes, but I think we played our hardest."
"I wouldn't say it impacted anything. Sometimes the ball goes in, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it goes in better than other days, and I think it was one of those days."
"We had them on the bench, so they were still in good spirits and cheering us on."
"I would say special. At the end of the day, life goes on. Control what you can control. You're not going to win them all, and that's what I've got to just focus on."
"For me, it was a normal game. I think it was just a different type of level. It's March Madness, at the end of the day. But at the end of the day, I think I still had fun."
"I would say it fuels me more just in life in general, not just basketball. At the of the day, you're not going to win every battle you face. And I think it's just how you come back from that battle."
"It's a lot of love. I love all the fans. That's one of the reasons why I do it. I do it for the fans. I appreciate all the support throughout the year. Just love the fans."
