Iowa City High football and track legend Tim Dwight will be inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame, the NFHS announced on Thursday.

Dwight was among 11 athletes selected nationwide for the Class of 2025.

“Tim has taken the lessons of education-based activities and applied them in his home state as a philanthropist and entrepreneur, passionate about renewable energy and young people,” said Tom Keating, IHSAA executive director. “He has long run the Tim Dwight Foundation, a nonprofit with almost all funds going toward the University of Iowa’s Children Hospital and Cancer Center. The foundation hosts youth football camps and is active at City High, adding to his past involvement and spokesperson roles for Salvation Army, Make-A-Wish Foundation and the nonprofit Iowa Games.”

While he stood at 5-foot-8 and weighed 180 pounds in high school, Dwight earned the reputation as one of the top athletes in the state. In his last two seasons as a Little Hawk, Dwight helped City High earn a 23-1 record, which included the school's first state football title in 1993.

A 12-time champion in track and field, Dwight helped lead City High to three consecutive IHSAA team track and field championships. He earned the honor of Gatorade Player of the Year once in football and three times in track and field.

He went on to become a four-time Big Ten conference track champion at the University of Iowa. He was also a wide receiver and kick returner for the Hawkeyes under coach Hayden Fry, becoming a first-team All-American returner in 1997 before playing 10 years in the NFL.

Dwight will be recognized during the NFHS Annual Summer Meeting on June 30 in Chicago.
