New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Davon Godchaux posted a cryptic message on social media, following the New England Patriots' reported release of linebacker Ja'Whaun Bentley.

"It’s no loyalty, and it never will be! As a player you always have to do what’s best for you!!," Godchaux posted on X.

Godchaux spent four seasons with the Patriots before being traded to the New Orleans Saints at the start of the new league year.

Bentley, on the other hand, is a three-time team captain who has been with the team since 2018. He was one of the last remaining players from the Tom Brady Super Bowl era in New England.

The team's decision to cut bait with him is surprising considering he's only 28 years old and one of the team's best defensive players. He was also recently cleared for the torn pec injury that ended his season early last year.

The Patriots handed the personnel reins over to newly-hired head coach Mike Vrabel, and things have been a blur ever since. Multiple new additions have been made through agency, but the team has also made several tough decisions.

In the last couple of weeks, they have parted ways with Bentley, David Andrews, Jonathan Jones and Deatrich Wise Jr. Everyone doesn't have to like it, but it's clearly a new era for the Patriots.
