Exclusive Video: Cardinals Charities Golf Tournament!
The Arizona Cardinals Football Club and Cardinals Charities hosted the 17th annual Celebrity Golf Classic presented by Alltel wireless, and Outback Steakhouse on Monday, May 8 at McCormick Ranch Golf Club.
After working long days during the team’s three-day mini-camp, Cardinals Head Coach Dennis Green and his staff, along with players and front office personnel participated in one of the year’s primary events to raise funds for Cardinals Charities.
“It definitely felt good to not have to wake up and go to practice today, so it’s nice to be out here having fun,” commented fourth-year wide receiver Bryant Johnson. “It makes us feel good to be able to come out here and play some golf with the fans and it all helps a great cause.”
“This is a great event and a fun way to raise money for Cardinals Charities,” added Cardinals Head Coach Dennis Green. “Cardinals Charities is an active member of the Valley, so it is nice to come out and enjoy the day with a lot of people who care about helping people.”
The Cardinals also hosted a putting contest prior to the shotgun start and served lunch catered by Outback Steakhouse.
“It’s always nice to be out on the golf course but with the added bonus of helping Cardinals Charities and adding to what they do is even better,” said quarterback Kurt Warner. “It is always fun to give back and then being able to come out and play a little golf is great and it is about the only excuse I have to get on the course.”
Although many of the players will quickly admit their games are not up to par, some of them made sure to at least look the part. Long snapper Nathan Hodel put in the extra effort on his wardrobe for the event.
“I was trying to look good for once. I was on eBay and $26 will get you a pair of these,” commented Hodel on his plaid pants. “They’re a little short but they still look good.”
A dinner reception, awards ceremony, raffle and live auction followed the tournament play.
Founded in 1990, Cardinals Charities supports programs designed to improve the quality of life and enhance opportunities for children, women, and minorities in the state of Arizona. Since its inception, Cardinals Charities has distributed over $3 million to over 200 charitable organizations.
