The Exeter High School indoor track school record in the girls 4x800-meter relay has been broken numerous times in the past 12 months.

The record was most recently broken last weekend at the New Balance Rising Stars Classic Track meet in a winning time of 9 minutes, 23.84 seconds.

The sophomore quartet of Lexi Paterna, Bri Paterna, Izzy Bremer and Eli Cross hope to break it again Saturday on the biggest stage — at the Nike Indoor Nationals at The Armory in New York City.

“They all have two years ahead of them, but you have to take advantage of everything when it presents itself,” Exeter coach Nate Leveille said. “When you have an opportunity like this, it’s pretty unique.”

The team will compete in the 20-team championship division relay, which is scheduled to start at 6:57 p.m.

“Depending on what other teams are there, I think we can make a run at All-American (top six) status,” Leveille said. “I don’t think that’s an unreasonable expectation.”

All four competed at last year’s Nike Indoor Nationals as Bremer and Cross joined Clara Knab and Danica Caron in the Emerging Elite 4x400-meter relay, which placed third.

“If you’ve never been to a national meet before, you see crazy competition,” Leveille said. “Having gone last year, they won’t be a deer in the headlights this year. They’ll know what to expect, and they are ready for it."

Exeter will also field a 4x400-meter relay team in the Emerging Elite division with Caron, Martelle McBride, Maddie Poteet, and Cross. That race is scheduled for Sunday at 1:29 p.m.

The New Balance Indoor Nationals are scheduled for Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, and several Seacoast runners are scheduled to compete.

Winnacunnet senior Ryan Zumbach will compete in the 800, and junior Ryan Janetos will run in the 200.

“I am excited for them both,” Winnacunnet coach Cassie Kruse said. “They’ve worked hard all season. This is well deserved, and another experience for them they will never forget, and another opportunity to compete at a really high level.”

At the NHIAA Division I state meet last month at Plymouth State, Janetos was first in the 300 (35.15), setting a school record, and Zumbach won the 1,000 (2:33.92)

Oyster River senior Mackenzie Cook is scheduled to compete in three events – the mile, the 5,000 and a leg on the Bobcats’ distance medley relay.

Senior Haley Kavanagh is scheduled to compete in the mile and the distance medley relay. Maddie Cook and Avery Bumgardt will run the other two legs on Oyster River’s distance medley relay.

At the Division II state meet last month at Plymouth State, Mackenzie Cook won both the 1,000 (3:05.69 seconds) and the 3,000 (9:57.73). Her time in the 3,000 set a New Hampshire Division II record.

Also, Kavanagh won the 1,500 (4:33.31), and was part of both winning 4x400-meter (4:21.48) and 4x800-meter (10:09.46) relays. Her time in the 1,500 set not only a Division II record, but also a state record

In the boys competition, Oyster River senior Talon Ouellette is scheduled to compete in the 200 and a leg in the sprint medley relay. Other relay members include Micah Gedney, Owen Mazza and Mitchell Keese.
