Falcons acquired CB Asante Samuel from the Eagles in exchange for a 2012 seventh-round draft pick.

It's the No. 229 pick, leaving Atlanta with just five selections in the 2012 draft, and none before the 55th choice. Samuel will presumably slide in at left cornerback, with Brent Grimes seeing slot work and Dunta Robinson manning the right side. Still a playmaker at age 31, Samuel has earned a Pro Bowl berth in four of the past five seasons while averaging 6.5 interceptions over the last six. The Falcons haven't upgraded their pass rush much, but they absolutely have a good-looking secondary.

Well that makes me feel better. It means we gave the Eagles a 2nd and a 7th round draft pick for kevin kolb.

Curiously how does any deals the Eagles do subsequent to last years trade have anything to do with Kolb?

I think he is referring that a pro-bowl corner could be had for a 7th round pick?

Then it's an emotional based reaction as opposed to one of logic?

not sure what his new deal is with ATL, but it's a good move by them. He's a great player and has plenty of time left

He seems like a steal for a 7th rounder, he's got a few good years left. I thought he would have been worth more, his paycheck must have got in the way.

It means the cardinals had all the leverage and should have held out. They were not going to re-sign kolb. That 2nd pic was robbery.

Of course it was robbery, time and time again pro bowl players go for 3-5th round picks, sometimes a 3rd and 5th. Kolb for just a 2nd would have been highway robbery.

That said, the Raiders were really fleeced for two first round picks for Carson Palmer. Yeah I'd rather have Palmer for sure, but two first round picks is a lot to give up for a retired player.

It will be interesting to see how DRC preforms this year. Putting him at nickle was just begging for trouble.

Being back at a much more suitable position... and it being a contract year for him, I expect he will be back to his high risk, high reward coverage style.

his paycheck must have got in the way.

That and his never-ending requests to be traded/released destroyed his trade value. It seemed as if Samuels wanted out of Philly for a very long time.

I can't understand why we can never get a deal like this with a good player. We seem to always be on the outside watching. What is a 7th round pick worth compared to this established player. Hell, if I had anything to do with it, I would have given them a 6th, or even a 6th and 7th. It just seems to me like a starting quality CB is worth more than that.

Sometimes I just don't get how lucky some teams are at grabbing these good players for not much of anything in a trade. When is the last time the Cards ever put one over on another team? Never, would be my guess.

Asante gets $14.5 million over three years, with escalators

Initially reported as having a value of $18.5 million over three years, a league source tells PFT that the base value of Samuel’s new contract is $14.5 million over three, with escalators that could push the number to $18.5 million.

The full details of the escalator package aren’t known, but the source says it includes factors like leading the league in interceptions and making it to the Pro Bowl.

Translation:

The Eagles will take Stephon Gilmore...

BTW , I heard DRC is in the last year of his contract.
