Surprised no thread, our starter RG got a 1 yr extension today. Is it depth? Is it a precursor for colledge leaving when cooper is back next year? Will watford take his place in 2014? Questions wewont kno till nex yr but congrats to the asu alumni earning a longer deal. Let's see what you got against fairley and suh buddy

He got the extension due to injuries.. Don't think it's much more than that..

You don't extend due to injury. Next year is a new season and everyone would be healthy.

Gee, they own his rights for the year. I don't know what an extension would have anything to do with injuries. I think Urban alluded to the fact that injuries gave him a shot to start and he stuck because of those injuries and his own progress.

A one year extension shows they want to give him a look next season too at the very least.

I dunno.. Darren Urban alluded to it having to due with injuries earlier today..

They extended him an extra year next year because of injuries? Urban was probably just referencing the injuries in terms of Fainaika getting the opportunity to show that he has talent.

Ya. That's what he said.. That's what I meant.. I just assumed everyone read what Urban read.. Guess not.. It sounded as if he didnt beat anyone out, he just played enough due to injuries for the team to want to see more.. Not that any immediate cut to another player might happen because he was tearing it up..

Think this was a good move by the Cards. They now have three guards going into the '14 season. Assuming that Cooper is healed they'll have two RG's (Fanaika/Watford), they have to get a guy who can play center and left guard. Does the team like Sendlein, long term?

Love it.

Fanaika is not a future All-Pro, but he is a refreshing change to the ridiculously poor talent that has played guard for this organization for years.

At worse he is solid depth for this club.

Cooper at LG, Fanaika and Watford fight it out for RG. Colledge is signed through at least next year but unless he plays incredibly well I don't see him on the roster next year.

I think Sendlein is a solid, doesn't get you beat type center but I wouldn't be upset if we drafted his eventual replacement soon.

Cardiac, I didn't realize that Colledge is signed thrpugh '14. I can't see the team keeping him unless he restructures. If that becomes the case we'll still need someone to back up Cooper. I'm sure there will be guards in FA.

His opportunities were due to injuries. His extension is due to how well he showed during these opportunities.

Cooper, Watford, Fanaika, & Potter.

How much depth do we need past that?

I agree. Hopefully we extend Winston as well and at least can count on Cooper, Watford, Fanaika, Winston, Potter and Massie heading into next year. Sendlein is upgradable, but hopefully he can make it two more years before we make that move. Levi is a huge question mark, but we will evaluate that at the end of the season.

LT, OLB, TE, DE, QB, a ton of huge needs already.

I like stocking up on young, raw Olinemen. Look at the *possible future starters we have:

Massie
Potter
Watford
Cooper
Faniaka
Sovell

And not necessarily at their current positions. I saw Earl Watford practice some at Center during camp.

And you have to imagine somewhere along the way we will draft a franchise T.

Thatll allow us to focus our drafts on QB,OLB, etc.

on lunch had 1060 on (everything else was national) and the guy said fanaika got man handled in the running game all day vs DET and predicted that potter would be our starting RG by the time we go to Tampa

Given that almost all of our good runs were to the right, I think this is overstated. And it was SUH!

that was my thought too, he was dealing with one of the best. however, I dont know which side SUH plays on ie vs him or colledge.

I know Wolfley was saying his MO is he's powerful but very unathletic. Once he gets in space, he's probably not so nimble.
