Lost in all of this is that the Suns finally got rid of Banks' contract. I'm not a Banks hater -- he seems like a decent guy and maybe he didn't really get a fair shake. But whatever the reason, there's no denying that the Suns were paying $5 million a year for basically nothing.

So in judging whether Shaq is worth $20 million a year, you also have to include the fact that the Suns are saving $5 million on Banks' old contract. From that perspective, the Suns are really getting Shaq for $15 million.

I didn't see any way to get rid of Banks. Nobody has talked about this much but it is HUGE. Not only does it help financially but it enables the Suns to bring in a player that might actually play or play somebody who might develop into a contributer.

I got the feeling that the only reason MD ever gave him any minutes was to help convince some other team to take him off our hands.

I'm not a Banks hater either. He does seem to be a good guy and when he got the chance, he played a decent game. I really think that everyone expected too much from him (not his fault they offered him the money, would you have turned it down?).

God bless and best wishes to you Banks. May you enjoy a new start and show what you have to offer.

Agreed - I expect Banks to play well in Miami

I actually hope that Banks is very productive in Miami. That guy got labeled as a lazy teammate, not willing to pay the price in practice. I hope he gets redemption. I also hope the same for Shaq-Fu.

I liked Marcus Banks' play as well. It seems he just did not fit very well into the Suns style in Coach DA's eyes. I think he could've been a valuable Sun if given more chances. In any case, I wish him well and hopes he thrives in Miami. Surely his Lamborghini Diablo will fit in very well on South Beach.

Good luck to the guy - I don't believe he ever got a good enough chance, but perhaps there were things going on behind the scenes that led to that. Just like Shawn and Shaquille, this is an opportunity for a fresh start for him, and I hope he is able to take advantage of it.

I think he did get the chance. He just didn't fit in our system. He wasn't good enough distributer and didn't have the shooting touch to stay in games.

The sad thing is that I think if we end up playing more half court sets, Marcus probably fits in our system more then ever before.

His contact was bad though anyway you looked at it. He was overpaid.

Saying good bye to Banks is like the lyrics to the old song by Bobbie Gentry, "Ode to Billy Joe". Never could quite figure out the player or lyrics to either respectively and never really cared.

I think Banks got plenty of opportunities here, he just didn't capitalize on them. What Banks needs is to be on a losing team where he'll get significant playing time, so he's in a perfect situation now. The Heat have nothing to lose by playing him and allowing him to develop and work through his struggles.
